'Outlander' Coming to TV
Apparently, STARZ is making 'Outlander' into a TV series. I know the idea has been tossed around on and off over the years, but it seems it's for real this time. Here's hoping whoever they cast as Jamie is actually Scottish. I'm not current with young actors that might fit the role -- anyone have casting thoughts?

I hadn't realized that Alasdair had played at the Kennedy Center Honors for Sean Connery, and found it on YouTube here. I've had the pleasure of dancing to his playing on numerous occasions, so seeing this clip was a lot of fun. Stay till the end to see Sean Connery dancing a jig up in his box.

This Should Be Fun
I found out back in July that Alasdair Fraser would be playing in Evanston WY (about four hours from us) in March of 2012. I haven't seen Alasdair play since I lived in California, and haven't been to an actual concert of his in longer than I can recall. Now it's closer to the day, I started looking into it, and come to discover it's The Céilí At The Roundhouse Celtic Festival 2012! Woot! So I'm looking even more forward to it now. Keep your fingers crossed that no new emergencies crop up leaving us unable to attend like past planned events.

I'm often asked just what exactly Scottish Country Dancing is. Well, a member of my f'list is a dancer and he videoed two dances from a recent Burn's Dinner and posted them if you'd like to check it out.

I used to dance two to four days a week for ten odd years depending on our performance/rehearsal schedule. I still miss it sometimes.

Own The Stone
As a restoration fundraiser, you can buy a walkway stone at Culloden.

I've been to Culloden twice, and it's one of the saddest places I've ever visited. I would love to be able to afford to get a stone for my family. If my Uncle Herb actually owned a computer, I'd pass this on to him.

About Culloden

Iconic … evocative … historic. These words only hint at the profound significance that the Battle of Culloden holds for Scots and their descendants. )

"Cuimhnich air na daoine on tàinig thu."
* Gaelic for "Remember those from whom you are descended."

Happy Tartan Day!!
Over on my blog, I'm hosting the Fourth Annual Gathering of the Blogs in celebration of Tartan Day. So I thought I'd bring a little of the party over here.

This year, I'm sharing some of my favourite recipes. This one is really yummy!

I Nearly Forgot!
It's Robert Burns' Birthday today! I don't have a Burns Dinner to attend this year, but I shall raise a glass nonetheless.

And my favourite Burns poem:

Ae Fond Kiss

Ae fond kiss, and then we sever;
Ae fareweel, alas, for ever!
Deep in heart-wrung tears I'll pledge thee,
Warring sighs and groans I'll wage thee.
Who shall say that Fortune grieves him,
While the star of hope she leaves him?
Me, nae cheerful twinkle lights me;
Dark despair around benights me.

I'll ne'er blame my partial fancy,
Naething could resist my Nancy:
But to see her was to love her;
Love but her, and love for ever.
Had we never lov'd sae kindly,
Had we never lov'd sae blindly,
Never met-or never parted,
We had ne'er been broken-hearted.

Fare-thee-weel, thou first and fairest!
Fare-thee-weel, thou best and dearest!
Thine be ilka joy and treasure,
Peace, Enjoyment, Love and Pleasure!
Ae fond kiss, and then we sever!
Ae fareweeli alas, for ever!
Deep in heart-wrung tears I'll pledge thee,
Warring sighs and groans I'll wage thee.
