Melancholy
Listening to Silly Wizard and it makes me sad. Still so saddened by the death of Andy M. Stewart. Such amazing music, so much joy.

You'll Never Leave Harlen Alive
If you're a fan of Justified, you might like this. I love this version of the song, sung by Darrell Scott, who wrote it, on Transatlantic Sessions. He's accompanied by Jerry Douglas and Karen Matheson.

How Excited Am I?
THIS EXCITED [HOLDS ARMS WIDE]

I won two tickets to ACM PRESENTS: TIM McGRAW’S SUPERSTAR SUMMER NIGHTS!!!! It's in Vegas, so it's close! And Tim and Keith and Lady Antebellum, and even Pit Bull, who is about the only rap artist who I actually like some of their music.

The blurb: Country music superstars Dierks Bentley, Keith Urban and Lady Antebellum along with international music sensation Pitbull, have been added to the all-star lineup of artists scheduled to perform at the ACM Presents: Tim McGraw’s Superstar Summer Night, taping Monday, April 8 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. They join previously announced performers Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, Taylor Swift and Ne-Yo. The special will be broadcast at a later date on the CBS Television Network.

Fifteen-time ACM Award winner Tim McGraw is spotlighting the hottest music of the summer and calling on his friends to help kick off the 2013 tour season. ACM PRESENTS: TIM MCGRAW’S SUPERSTAR SUMMER NIGHT will feature high-octane performances and musical collaborations in a two-hour, star-studded concert event to benefit ACM Lifting Lives, the philanthropic arm of the Academy of Country Music dedicated to improving lives through the power of music.

Okay, back-story: I follow Keith Urban on Twitter, and on Friday, he tweeted it was the last day to enter a contest his fanclub was putting on for a pair of tickets to the above, and the tickets would be awarded on Saturday. I figured what the heck, it's in Vegas, two hours away,I would never pay for tickets that the cheapest is $115, and I never win anything anyway. So I entered, I checked my email on Saturday and Sunday, nope, I didn't win. Last night, I'm watching TV, glancing at my Yahoo mail, and realize the email I must have seen in the morning might actually be from the contest!! IT WAS! I had 24 hours to respond, which I did, and I heard back today form Keith Urban's fan engagement person that the ACM would be in touch with me about the tickets. COMMENCE SQUEEEEING!!!!

I can't believe I won! And won something cool and fun and exciting!!! I've been bouncing around since last night!

Oops
I did not know you can only go back 80 posts on DW. I do now. Yes, I am behind.

What else? I keep thinking of things to post about, but don't get the chance, then it's gone. Things like Lost Girl, or other TV we've been watching. Or about what we did last weekend (Parade of Homes), or crap from work, or how most of the comments I get on my fic are spam (serious bummer). But the thinking is as far as it gets, it seems. How about the weather? It was nearly 70 this weekend! Tomorrow, it's supposed to snow. I could tell you about my plans for the garden this spring, but that's probably boring. Or how I keep writing a story in a fandom so dead, I think if 5 people read it, I'd be lucky. But, no, let's skip all that. Oh, hey, I bought a new pillow! Yes, exciting, I know.

Okay, here's something new, that's still fresh and postie :D

One of Nin's coworkers is a former member of the Jeff's cult (a little background, if you aren't familiar), who it seems was kicked out during the last round of 'excommunications'. She was a first wife, has 15 children of her own, and many grandkids, and she's now living in town, by herself, for the first time in her life. Well, she discovered 'Celtic Woman' recently and was telling Nin how much she loved the music. Since I may be something of a Celtic music-a-phile [cough], I immediately went through my prized collection, which spans some 20 years, some of which I bought in Scotland and in Nova Scotia, picking out artists she really must listen to. I think I loaned her about 20 odd CDs. Too bad she has no way to listen to the cassettes! :D Nin says she was pretty happy about the bag she was handed, and is really looking forward to listening to them. It was nice to share something totally new to a person who is dipping her toes into quite a different world than the one she's been living in.

A Whole Soundtrack
So I just bought Mumford & Sons album, Babel. God, it could be the soundtrack for Charlotte and Chris. Which is fortuitous since I'm currently writing a Chris/Charlotte fic, a sequel to Too Young For Heaven. Talk about setting the mood. The story's almost done, and poor Nin, she had to listen to me ramble on as to whether I stop it where it is, or continue. Not that she's read it, but I just needed to be able to talk about it to someone. I hate writing in a vacuum. My brain is just spinning, and needs some sort of outlet. I'd talk to the cats, but they're not much with the responding. And the other development today was James Norrington walking into the next story as an Immortal. No, I don't know where he came from, he was just there, in Santa Fe, with horses. That's my muse for you.

Musical Offering
Nin found this vid for me, Joshua James 'Queen of the City'. We got to hear him live a little more than a year ago, and wow! I've rarely been moved to tears listening to a band in a bar. He really is that good. The video for this song is a creepy 1920's Americana sort of thing, and I really want to feed him a few burgers - he seems much thinner than when we saw him in concert.

T'is the Season
I adored Karen Carpenter when I was a little girl. When I listen to her sing now, her voice is still one of the loveliest I've heard, but the memories are bittersweet.

I may be a little obsessed...
with the two Lonely Mountain songs from the Hobbit soundtrack. Listening to them over and over.

You know what would be awesome?
An Avengers/James Bond fic.

I think this may have been inspired by listening to Adele's 'Skyfall'.

Crackity Crack Crack
We went to Mesquite this morning to acquire adult beverages (It's the town right on the Nevada border nearest us.) and on the way home, "Call Me Maybe" came on the radio. I said to Nin that I'd like to see this done as an Avengers vid, which made her chortle. But that didn't last long, after I added, from Loki's POV. Now she hates me, because she can totally see it and it's making her crazy.

[buffs nails] I'm that good.

I Like Crossovers in Music Too!
Was talking with [livejournal.com profile] jinxed_wood about the crossover in traditional Irish music, which reminded me of one of my favourite crossovers: the group Relativity. It melded two of my favourites from Scotland, Phil and Johnny Cunningham of Silly Wizard, and one of my favourite Irish voices, Triona Ni Dhomhnaill. The following is one of my favourite pieces, from the album Gathering Pace

Too Funny
Tom will tweet his song of the day and/or evening, but I've never checked them out before. Tonight's had an interesting title, so I decided to search for it on YouTube, and I clicked on the first result. The comments cracked me up: dozens of Tom's fans who had done the same thing I did.

It was this, BTW: Spiegel im Spiegel, by Arvo Pärt.
