I haven't watched last night's ep yet, but after the first two, I agree, the best scenes are the ones with his daughter. Those are the only times he seems truly himself. He puts on a much showier face to everyone else.
I love this show, too. Have you noticed that it has something of an FK vibe? At the end of the first episode, I found myself sitting back laughing like a fool at the following sequence: Rick (not Nick but close) Castle (not Knight but certainly evocative of the same era) is sitting, alone, in his high-ceilinged sanctuary, typing pensively on his computer, as a very Mollin-esque song swells in the background. Then they cut to the sunset over the distinctive city skyline...
Methinks one of the writers or producers either worked on FK or was a big fan. :-)
And yeah, the daughter's a little too good to be true, esp in the last ep, but the relationship is awesome. One of the reviews I read points out that he parents his mother and is mothered by his daughter, and I think that says a lot about how he became the delightfully dysfunctional character that he is.

That scene at the end, where he's looking at the picture of the two of them when she was little? Made me totally "AWWW! His one true love!"
I hope they continue to show the love and pride he has for her.

NF is a wonderful actor ( keep hoping he will break out into song!!)
I think his 'mother and daughter' were wonderfully cast. Not so sure about the chick his shadowing. hmp..we'll see.
If I get hooked on a show, it usally gets canned (Moonlight,New Amsterdam,Drive)..so, we'll see.
