Interview

There's an interview here with Laurell Hamilton.

Nope, I haven't read the newest Anita book yet. I'm almost afraid to after hearing nothing but bad things about it.

I hate to say this, but I'm surprised... she manages to sound almost sane in that interview. Unfortunate how that impression tends to be destroyed by reading her website...

*Shakes head* I genuinely enjoyed the first few of her books that I read, but I have a hard time accepting anyone who writes that much sex per novel and still refuses to admit that her books are erotica.

What's funny or odd as the case may be is that I've loaned my boss the series from book one. Now we're to the point where we can't even talk about them! Last one I handed him in a brown paper wrapper [g]

I haven't read the newest one yet, either. They all became such blatant porn.

I don't even mind lots of sex in my reading material [g] But it has to have a point! And the book itself needs to be owrth reading for plot/story/characters. There's so much sex in the books now, it's mind numbing.

Heh, I read that interview yesterday, and while I share rivendellrose's surprise at how sane LKH sounds in that interview I don't share here hatred of saying it. I decided after I finished NiC I'd give the woman two more books to give me back my enjoyment of the series before I quit reading it. After I finished ID I swore I wasn't touching another Anita Blake book. So far so good. :D Biggest amusement for me reading that interview, in a gallows humor kind of way, is how short her words on NiC are.

I've been reading Hamilton since the early 90s.......

I liked her VERY much up to and including Blue Moon. Narcissus in Chains was good and Cerulean Sins was OK as well. Incubus Dreams was awful! Danse Macabre was better but then, that's not saying much. I'm not a fan of slash and there was a good deal of it. The Anita/Asher sex scene at the end of the book is worth the price (of the paper back edition).

*Nods.* I've been reading the series since it started in '93. My paperback copy of Guilty Pleasures is an October '93 printing. I LOVE the first 8 books, which is through Blue Moon. I'm rather ambivalent about Obsidian Butterfly, and I HATE the books after OB.

I miss Edward.......

Heh, I like to think Edward would thin the bloated cast down some if he came back to town. >:) If you're interested in a quick guide to my feelings about "Things ABVH," I've got a page over here (http://www.angelfire.com/scifi/shieldbearer/My_ABVH_Opinions.html). I'll tell you right here I like Asher second only to Jean-Claude. Course I like Richard, and that squicks some people.

Except for Richard........

we pretty much agree. Have you seen this site? I like it http://halo-productions.com/anita/

PS--I don't have a site. I just have a blog and write Dracula-Phantom stories on fanfic.net:)

Except for Richard we pretty much agree.

I guess I'll take that. Edward was in my Top Five for a while, but drifted out as Jason and Zerbrowski got more important to me. He is still on one of my Top Tens in my LJ post here (http://beccadg.livejournal.com/10234.html).

Have you seen this site?

I've got it in my bookmarks. I use it as a resource when I'm working on ABVH fanfiction, or doing ABVH roleplaying.

I've had my site since I got online in '98. It's at its third or fourth hosting service. I generally try to archive all my fanfiction on my site, but there are some drabbles and WIPs that can only be found in my LJ. B-)

I've only managed to read Cerulean Sins and Icubus Dreams once each, but I found Danse Macabre to be hard to put down (and I was trying to make the read last a couple of days as it was the only book I had with me). Honestly, especially after 'Micah', which I thought was rather mean: large margins, double-spaced, large print size to flesh out the size of the book (It only took me about 4 hours to read) and it still cost me ten dollars, I was about ready to give up on the series. Not after Danse Macabre.
