I've been getting about a half dozen spam comments on older entries a day over the last few days, so I've had to tighten up my comments settings. It used to be the spam comments were anon, and I had my LJ set to screen anon comments, but this newest wave comes from spammers with LJ accounts. So you may see a captcha appear when you leave a comment. This seemed the happy medium between screening most comments and leaving it open as it has been.

I always screen non-friends. That way, I can verify before it goes anywhere, and mark as spam if necessary.

I've gone to friends only some time ago. No spamming, but having a lot of trouble keeping LJ up today.

All my posts are automatically friends locked. They can't spam what they cannot see.

I don't want a friends only journal, so adding a captcha to my comments should be a suitable stop gap for now.

Yeah, like a few above, I went FO loooooong ago. Before we had the option for captcha. Even with it available now, I've been FO so long - and talked so much fandom shit I don't want those people finding - I might as well stay FO.

I'll only go friends only as a very last resort, so hopefully the captcha will throttle down the spam a bit.

I've been having this problem on LJ, too, lately, though just one a day, not six. I haven't yet escalated to CAPTCHA for non-friends, but I'm thinking about it...

They're always on my fic posts, which is interesting. Started as a few a day and has been increasing.

Here in our corner of LJ they started automatically screen any comments with links from non-friends, because spam bots are really a problem:(.
