Beautiful

Take a look at this dress that's for sale. It's based on the dress that Elizabeth Swann wore in POTC. Oh to have the talent to make such things! Or the money to buy them :)

Very pretty. My mom could make something like that (and has done similar wedding dresses). The corset would be tricky but it's not as difficult as one might think. The handstitching is a nice extra touch. Hmmm, making I should take up sewing again based on the price that is running up to...

There's quite a market for that sort of thing. I've saved photos from Ebay auctions of vintage 1920s formal dresses that I hope to get made one day.

Heh, and my bank account is way too thin for it!

Of course I don't have anywhere to wear such a thing, even if I did make something like that.

Yeah, you have to have some sort of activity/hobby to go along. For me, it would be historical dances, but I live too far away from a major population center to participate regularly.

Definitely need somewhere to do stuff like that. I'm just not sure they do that sort of thing around here, although I haven't really looked and wouldn't be interested in going alone.

I just thought I'd make you jealous and mention I share a house with costumier (for theatre). I can't find a picture of her corset work but I do have this:

Lovely! I wore period clothes once for a California Historcal Society dance. Hoop skirts and all! I loved it.

It's lovely, isn't it? Not as elaboarate the POC dress, but it's for theatre and so is a simpler, bolder design so that it can seen from a distance!

I'm nosy, I looked, it's lovely!

If you want to learn how I can teach you. Of course, if you get into costuming as a hobby you rapidly find yourself in need of more storage for all the wonderful fabrics and more events to give you the excuse to make more costumes.

Oh, and the books, and the tools and the sewing machines (I own 5), etc...
