Holby: 'Before the Fall'

A few thought's about this week's eppie...

Our Dan has a real chivalrous streak doesn't he? I've been noting signs of it, but this episode really cemented the the idea for me. He was ready to cover for Kyla! Dan seems to really like women, aside from the obvious. Every week something else happens to just endear him all the more to me.

And the real Methos moment? when Kyla told him she'd told the police the truth, and his reply, "Sure, whatever works for you." Cracked me up!

As for the rest of them... I really felt for Connie. She was dealing with the situation the only way she could. And Elliot is such a dear! and what was with that couple Donna was assigned to? I'm actually liking Donna better these days. And Jac!?!?!? I don't think she was expecting Lord Byrne to be smitten. What a mess she's gotten herself into. And the bright spot of the ep was no Thandie!

I can't say I missed Thandie at all, and I was glad to.

Jaq--in a way I feel sorry for her and in another way I don't. She's playing both of them to get ahead. I think she likes Joseph, and I think she likes Lord Byrne, as much as she's capable of caring about anyone but herself. In a choice between Lord Byrne and his son, though--I think Jaq would take him. Looking at the other episodes, I think she's been after Lord Byrne ever since she realized that Joseph wasn't the risk-taking ambitious type she needed to help her get ahead.

Dan--yeah, definitely the chivalrous type. I'm wondering if it's possible, considering the interlocking themes here, from Kyla/Harvey to the Masons, that Dan's father abused his mother, and possibly Dan himself? There's a definite rage there at a man who would abuse his wife and child--"that's not the kind of love you need". It also feeds into his committment phobia--he might be afraid he'd turn into his father. And that might work rather well in my AU...

And as Methos being Dan--he'd know a lot about men who abused women, wouldn't he? And whether or not he'd admit it, he'd be making up for Cassandra. Seeing himself in Harvey, and not liking at all what he sees.

I'd better shut up. I have to go to the printers' early tomorrow to turn in the zine, so...

Good episode. Lots of good Dan moments.

Ooooh!! I hadn't thought of that. I think you may have something there. Like Alex on Grey's. Father abused his mother till Alex got big enough to beat the crap out oh him. and we know Alex has commitment issues!

You're doing a zine?

[identity profile] dejla.livejournal.com 2007-05-13 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
I'm doing "ravens" as a hard-copy zine for friends who don't have on-line access (more of them than you'd believe). Barbara Fister-Liltz kindly let me reprint some of Frank's art and some of hers for it. It's not huge, but I'm not going to ask anyone for more than print cost. And I do think that I like looking at something in print, you know?

Dan good, nice bloke :) Looked like Faye was going to keep schtum about all she's seen too, but I hope Kyla gets Max back soon. That "family" situation was a vicious circle, though it's annoying cos I used to like Harvey (before he turned into a wife-batterer, however well she fought back).

Jaq is a manipulative cow who deserves every corner she backs herself into :) I reckon she'll stay true to form and pick Lord Byrne over Joseph, but I look forward to posible fireworks if the latter ever finds out!

Maria was a star this ep. I love the way she just flashed those blokes as if to say, "bovvered?" and yes, Donna in justice mode was a pleasant sight. I can't see her as a career nurse like Chrissie (unless something changes), but there is something under the gossip.

Connie.. like her, generally, and the storyline - though I do hope she lets Sam into that room soon - but the only reason I can imagine why Eliott didn't have her escorted off the ward while she was still working is that she might have gone home and never come back. The thinking is probably that being on-site means a better chance that she'll give in and look to the bub. Legally the hospital has an obligation to keep her away from anything work-like for a minimum of 2 weeks, though that would be awkward considering the fact that both job and baby are in the same building!

That said, I have a weird perspective on that storyline at the mo *lol* several people on my pregnancy comm have had prem babies - thankfully none with intra-cranial bleeding - but it's still heart-breaking when they talk about being kept behind glass walls.

Good morning!

I enjoyed the episode overall this week. Some weeks are like marking time, but this one engaged me.

*g* Dan adores women -- the whole sexist schtick is either because he's a natural shit-stirrer (and you notice he respects people who push back)? or he's Methos and he's deliberately being as anti-Adam Pierson as possible. (I keep having a vision of Joe and Mac seeing him at his outrageous best at Holby, Mac spluttering like he was at the end of 'Till Death' when the vase got smashed, and Joe just grinning.)

And yeah, that whole scene was pure Methos. :)

As to Connie, it was so obvious work was all that kept her together, and that Sam expecting her to react the way he thought she should react was just pissing her off. Eliot knew when to let her go and when to use the stern voice of authority on her -- I didn't know he could be so stern. Yay Eliot!

Something's matured Donna -- she was right onto the situation with that couple (I bet he was abusing the woman when he was her swimming coach) and she did not like it one little bit. Oh, and Maria came out of her shell! You can believe now she is Dan/Methos' Watcher and she's deliberately acting meek to avoid notice. Except Methos can smell a Watcher a mile off...

As for Jac, she's landed herself in Deep Shit. Dearm, dear, tsk, tsk. Gosh, even Dan tried to warn her -- if you're going to be a player, pick your targets carefully. The funny thing is I think she and Lord B are actually a more compatible couple than her and Joesph -- except for the age difference, and the fact that he's married, and the fact that she's sorta involved with his son, and... *rolls eyes*

Oh, and re: Harvey: conversation between Mum and self:

MUM: So I take it Harvey isn't an Immortal?

ME: Well we don't know how long it takes for them to come back to life. Harvey could have come to after Kyla saw him and done a Richie and sneaked out of the morgue.

MUM: *fit of laughter8

ME: Except Methos isn't too impressed with him. If he had been pre-immortal he'd have waited until Kyla left after the viewing and snuck in there with a bone saw. Scrrrrrrr...

Thandie next week. Nowever... :D

And what bugs me most about Jac? She doesn't need to pull the sort of crap she does to get ahead! She's an excellent surgeon. But the girl seems to have some serious esteem issues since she obviously doesn't think enough of herself to believe in her abilities.

[identity profile] sophiedb.livejournal.com 2007-05-13 09:16 am (UTC)(link)
Harvey as an Immortal! *rotfl* That was be classic!

It would have taken him a while to come back too, all opened up as he was. That's got to take a bit of morgue time to recover from, whether or not someone tidied him up :) I can almost see Methos packing him up in a crate and posting it to Bolivia or something, before he woke up :)
