Brandy

One of my favourite songs from my younger days is 'Brandy'(One of my other faves was 'Wildfire' -- it's all about the angst!). I guess I've always had a thing for sea captains [g] I want to find a copy of it somewhere, since I haven't heard it for ages, so went looking around the web and come to find Kenny Chesney has covered it. I thought I had all his CDs, but I must be missing one, because I've never heard his version. And apparently, Red Hot Chili Peppers did it too, but I wouldn't know anything about that!

There's a port on a western bay
And it serves a hundred ships a day
Lonely sailors pass the time away
And talk about their homes

And there's a girl, in this harbor town
And she works, laying whiskey down
They say "Brandy, fetch another round"
She serves them whiskey and wine

The sailors say "Brandy, you're a fine girl
What a good wife you would be
Yeah your eyes could steal a sailor
From the sea."

Brandy, wears a braided chain
Made of finest silver from the north of Spain
A locket, that bears the name
Of a man that Brandy loved

He came, on a summer's day
Bringing gifts, from far away
But he made it clear, he couldn't stay
No harbor was his home

The sailors said "Brandy, you're a fine girl
What a good wife you would be
But my life, my lover, my lady
Is the sea."

Yeah Brandy used to watch his eyes when he told his sailor's story
She could feel the ocean fall and rise, she saw it's raging glory
But he had always told the truth, Lord he was an honest man
And Brandy does her best to understand

At night, when the bars close down
Brandy walks through a silent town
And loves a man, who's not around
She still can hear him say, she hears him say

"Brandy, you're a fine girl
What a good wife you would be
But my life, my lover, my lady
Is the sea"

"Brandy, you're a fine girl
What a good wife you would be
But my life, my lover, my lady
Is the sea"

The only version I know is the one by Looking Glass. Full title on the cd I have is "Brandy (You're A Fine Girl Now). I think it's version you hear on the oldies stations.

By the way, the colours for the reply box are unreadable. I have to go back and select everything to check on what I've typed.

I don't know what's up with that. When I comment, it's white text.

Yes, that's the one I'm looking for a copy of. Turns out a coworker has it on CD and is going to double check the title (it's some sort of compilation CD) so I can get it.

White text in a white box.

My copy is on a set called Twenty Five Hits. Part of a boxed set I cot a few years ago.

White text on a dark blue box for me. Maybe somebody might have an idea of what the problem is.

There's a decent version on the Charlie's Angels CD. I have it and could email it to you if you want. But keep in mind that it starts off with....Oh I can think of the guy's name. The guy who married Drew Barrymore. Anyway, It starts off with him singing pretty badly. It's by Looking Glass, I don't know if that's the original singers or not.

I'd love to hear Kenny Chesney's version.

Thanks :) A coworker is going to hook me up. He is the music king! He says the Chesney version is just okay. And that's it's on his latest CD as far he recalls.
