They're airing it on CBS now, which is cool since I was interested in seeing it, but knew the pay cable version would be too gory for me. Anyway, saw the first episode, and I'll definitely watch again. Very strange show, but compelling.

Having seen both I can tell you that the differences aren't so much in the gore, but the language and the sex. Dokes and Dexter's sister both have sincerely 'Adult' language, using cursewords as their most common language.

Hearing them without it makes Dokes seem tamer, and Dexter's sister seem more damaged.

The main visual difference is body parts. Dexter's victims are much more exposed under the plastic wrap/duct tape in the Cable version.

Huh. A few people told me not to watch it because it would be too bloody for me. Go figure [g] Well, I always prefer the less bad language version, so it's all good.

I'm not sure whether the version we got was edited or not, but I'm with you on the "strangely compelling"! It's like a freakishly reversed CSI style show, with added cuckoo.

I watched it on CBS for the same reasons and really liked it. Of course I was distracted when it was on because I was working on a deadline, but it was really interesting.. Nice POV, very different.

Folks had warned me that it can be disturbing, and I suppose it is. But I find Criminal Minds extremely disturbing considering it's made for CBS.

Hopefully I'll have my work in a good place on Sunday so I can watch with my full attention :)

ooo. Dexter is great. It's not really that gory, even the original version... but when it is, it really is.

The first season was excellent. I'm looking forward to the second coming out on DVD.
