By George, It's Right!

I've taken similar quizzes before, but this is the first time it's pegged me.

What American accent do you have?

Canada. You probably get irritated when British people and Europeans think you're from the States, but over here we wouldn't make a mistake like that.

If you're not Canadian, you're either a Minnesotan, or you're a Westerner who over-thought some of the questions on the quiz.

Take this quiz now - it's easy!
We're going to start with "cot" and "caught." When you say those words do they sound the same or different?

I did this for a giggle (seeing as I'm a Northern Brit and not American at all) and apparently if I was American I'd be from New York...

I have a Canadian/California accent, and it gets more Canadian if I've been drinking [g]

I took the quiz but I didn't get the pretty map. All I got was a box with the dreaded X.

Oh yeah, it said I was Southern.

There's a surprise!

For some reason, the quiz thinks I'm Southern. I guess 15 years Up North haven't put a dent in my speech patterns... *grin*

Nope, they haven't [g]

It knew I was Southern.

But that would be rather hard to miss. ;)

Hee!

The funnest thing for me about this quiz was that I'd start thinking about how the sounds would, well, sound if I answered as a different region, and then I got (an undoubtedly warped) Southern accent in my head and I had to be really careful I didn't answer as one. ;) I'm one of those annoying people who will be talking to people from other places and I'll start to talk like them half-way through the conversation. It's never out of disrespect; I do it without thinking about it.

I do the exact same thing!

blegh, it says I have a Philly accent. I spend so much time trying to tell people I don't! I didn't grow up there, there's no reason why I would have picked up a Philly accent in the few years (ok like five or six) that I lived there and besides, even when I did live there people always asked me where I'm from. Meaning obviously I didn't sound like them :P

Guess those eight years in Michigan didn't do a damn bit a' good!!

They got me right, but only because of the bolded reference:

And if you're not from the West, you are probably one of the following:
(a) A Pittsburgher - the quiz can't tell the difference;
(b) Someone from Canada (probably southern Ontario) who doesn't have a Canadian accent;
(c) Someone from northern New England who doesn't have a New England accent; or
(d) Someone from Texas or the Heartland who was born after 1980.
You are definitely not from New York, New Jersey, Chicago, Detroit, the Deep South, etc

The quiz can't tell the difference. And our accent is so odd that it says "Pittsburgh" and not southwestern PA or anything vaguer.
