Techie Stuff

So, pod fics. Anyone here actually done audio versions of their fic? Purely curiosity on my part -- no worries, you will not have audio of my fic inflicted on you. I loathe the sound of my voice, so no [g] Anyone listen to them in general? I'm wondering if there's a correlation between fans of audio books and to listeners of pod fics. In my case, I don't listen to audio books, and I haven't listened to any pod fics. And I ponder such things!

Next up: social search engines.

Once you tell Delver who you are, it builds your social graph by itself. It correlates your identities across sites like MySpace, LinkedIn, Flickr, Facebook, Digg, and more, and creates a list of who your friends are. It also layers in a list of your friends of friends. Then, when you search for something, it gives precedence to content and links from your friends and their friends. So if you're looking for an Italian restaurant recommendation in New York, you'll get results from people you know, or people your friends vouch for. Delver CEO Liad Agmon clearly believes that online content from people you know is more valuable than generic Google results. He says, "The Web is no longer just a collection of documents. It's made up of microcontributions."

I love hearing stories read aloud (live, audio books, author readings, and radio performances), but haven't listened to much podfic because there are maybe two HL podfics made public and most podfic is recorded for fandoms I don't care about.

You can find out a lot about it by nosing around [livejournal.com profile] amplificathon, including the tutorials linked to on the info page, ditto [livejournal.com profile] podfic_tips, and the Audio podfic archives: http://jinjurly.com/audio/

I haven't listened to any podfics. I prefer to read fics; also I am very hard of hearing so I have a difficult time understanding audiobooks. I have listened to a few audiobooks though. One was because the book was unavailable in print format and the others were the Dresden Files audiobooks which are read by James Marsters.

Sorry I missed whishing you a happy birthday a few days ago. I haven't been online much lately. This past week has been busy, which will be better explained in a post on Monday or Tuesday (hopefully).

I've recorded a few of my own stories as podfic, and gotten some good feedback on them. No Highlander yet, although I've got a half-finished podfic of "Olive Branch" sitting on my hard drive right now.

I think there's a lot of overlap between people who enjoy audiobooks and podfic. I don't often listen to either, because audio processing is more difficult for me than visual. But some of them really are fabulous.

When you finish Olive Branch, I will definitely check it out!
