Ficlet: 'You Wore Green'
This was a lunch hour drabble that just grew, and grew a bit more!
Lucia is a toddler in this one, so I'd place it around 2376, not long after 'Now We Are Met Again'. Rated PG, a drabble on steroids :)
You Wore Green
“You were wearing a green dress.”
“Hmm?”
“Your dress, the first time we met, it was green,” Methos explained as they walked across the garden.
“You actually remember that?” Triona seemed amused.
“Of course I do!” He took Lucia from Triona’s arms, swinging the toddler around, making her giggle. “And you kept calling me ‘Mr. Pierson’.”
Quirking an eyebrow, she remarked, “You seemed fairly disreputable at the time.”
“Disreputable?” He seemed scandalized by her description.
“Disreputable,” she repeated with a grin. “You slouched, and were wearing a sweater two sizes too big for you. I thought you were trying to sell encyclopedias or something.” She sat down on a bench under an arch covered with wild roses.
Now he dangled Lucia upside down, much to the delight of the little girl. “I think I’m offended. Encyclopedias?”
“She’s definitely going to sleep tonight!” she said, smiling fondly at her laughing daughter. Then she turned the smile to Methos. “’Old friends’ of LaCroix’s didn’t make a habit of showing up in daylight, you know.”
Carefully he set Lucia upright and sat her on the grass. “There is that,” he said, sitting next to Lucia. “And I didn’t slouch, ‘Adam’ slouched.”
“Whatever!” Reaching over she brushed at his hair with the tips of her fingers. “And besides, my first impression didn’t last long. As you recall, I’d taken quite a shine to ‘Adam’ by the time the night was out.”
“I do seem to recollect that,” he said rather smugly, snagging her hand to kiss the inside of her wrist.
“I bet you do; you and your deal with Lucien!” She shook her head in fond exasperation. “What if I’d turned you down?” she asked, curious.
“I would have become a very frequent and persistent visitor.”
“Good answer!” Leaning down over the now sleeping Lucia, she kissed him gently. “I would have bought encyclopedias from ‘Adam’, you know.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah.”
“That’s one of the nicest things you’ve ever said to me.”
