I used an icon to reply to a comment and it wasn't my icon. Trying to decide if my account has been hacked or some sort of fried bit of LJ data.

Changed my password just in case.

I had the same thing happen the other day - it was incredibly strange. I suspect some sort of LJ error. T_T

it's an LJ error. It's cropped up before. I had it this time too. I ended up deleting the icon and re uploading it.

That's a relief! After all the stories I've heard of Russian bots hacking into people's LJs, I was a wee bit worried.

This happened once a while back when LJ was switching servers. The user icons got all jumbled up or didn't appear at all.

Also, if it was in a community, then it could be the settings. A community can be set to use only its own icons in posts. (I'm not sure, but I think you can do the same for you own friends page, too.)

It was a head that looked like it had been drawn with a coloured pencil. Very odd.

this issue was going around my f-list a few weeks ago, apparently it's an LJ glitch.
