Now for The Waiting

I mailed in my ballot last week, though living in a very Blue state in one of the Bluest of districts, my vote doesn't count for much. But I did my bit regardless, and happy to do so. Tonight, a friend is coming over for dinner/snacks/drinks while we watch the results come in. We had an awesome time doing it four years ago, so we decided to do it again.

Anyone else have any special plans for tonight?

Later: meant to add, even, if like me, you live in a non swing state, your vote is still important. I know McCain doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of taking CA, but my vote does count towards the popular vote even if it doesn't in the Electoral College. And the popular vote is important when it comes to that whole 'mandate' thing :) So, yeah, vote! Whoever it is you're supporting.

My son, his wife and I voted early about two weeks ago. In our case the wait was maybe all of five minutes and the process very easy and streamlined. I really loved voting that way and will likely take advantage of it next year.

And YES, whoever you support, get your butt out there and DO IT, people!

Going over to my son's this evening to hang out and watch the election results. First election I can recall where I actually cared enough to want to sit and watch!

I'm a political junkie, so I'm always glued to my TV on election night, even before I was old enough to vote [g]

I'm glad you added the bit about the mandate thing. Although we disagree on candidates, I fully totally and 100% support your right to disagree with me and make your opinion known. :)

It's fundamental.

I will also be watching the election results with friends tonight. And possibly drinking...

Love the icon!!

I guarantee there will be alcohol consumption no matter how it goes. My friend doesn't drink much, so I need to keep up the side!

[livejournal.com profile] pat_t said she was going to break her diet, get munchies and get trashed. I'll be doing homework. Le sigh.

Ohio is one of those swing states - I seem to recall that the winner has carried Ohio all but one time. Off to add my vote to yours this afternoon. You're right no matter what state you live in it matters.

I can't imagine what it must be like to be in a swing state!

We get bombarded by the campaigning. i must have gotten at least two computer call a night for Obama - was driving me nuts

[identity profile] simonesa.livejournal.com 2008-11-04 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it does make a difference because they are looking at the popular vote too. Even if Obama has the state by a long shot and hopefully he will do as well or better than the expected polls, but if he has an overwhelming popular vote that will be one for the record books. I hope everyone got out to vote even those like me who live in a very red state.

Yeah, exactly. Even if Obama wins, I certainly don't want him to have any sort of mandate, so every vote does count for something.

I want to stay in my dorm and watch election coverage all night, but I got roped into working a side job at the University last minute. :/ I usually watch election coverage with my family, and I'm kind of sad I won't even really be able to watch with my friends this year. I hope you have fun, though, and you're totally right about going out there and voting anyway!

I think we'll have fun. At least we won't be hungry. Sorry you have to work :(

Thats great that you voted but it is my hope that Obama wins.
I have no idea what Florida will do, if we do 2000 again I might have to choke a beyotch.

Florida always seems to have 'issues' :)

[identity profile] layla-aaron.livejournal.com 2008-11-04 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Whether we support the same candidate or not, we both agree on the importance of voting. I gave it a try when the polls first opened and the line was out the door, so I went after I got out of work. The lack of lines is a distinct advantage to working a half day. I feel sorry for those who have to go after 5 pm.

And now we wait...

I am so glad I can vote by mail!

I considered getting a ballot to vote by mail or voting early, but I crossed my fingers and hoped. :)
