My DWidth Statement

Since everyone else is making them!

I will not be crossposting from Dreamwidth. One, all my nearly 200 bright shiny icons are here and I can't make do with just six. I could crosspost, come back here and edit the post and change the icon, but that would be kinda silly. Two, I need my LJ addon for Firefox to have a happy journal posting experience. Seriously, I don't know how I managed before I found LJ addon! And three, I have a permanent account here, plus all the comms I have.

What I will be doing is backing up my LJ to my DWidth journal a few times a week. and I'll accept comments on the posts in either place.

So far, there's nothing different enough about DWidth to compel me to move there lock, stock, and barrel. Now if the majority of my f'list were to move, I'd reconsider, but it would take a lot to pry me off my LJ.

I think that about covers it!

Amen sister! Every one is talking about the bright and shiny, and I'm going - where? So far they are very basic and only using LJ codes to function. I do understand they are still in beta. And they may just blow me away with their brillance at some point. If that happens I will reconsider.

Nothing agasint DWidth, but with my money invested in a permanent account here and all my icon space -- which is important to me -- so far, they just don't have anything to be able to compete with that. If I was just here month to month, then it might be different.

Can I ask what you used to back up to DW, I have an account there but just want to use it as back up. But I am not sure what to use to accomplish that.

a big Ditto!

I have an IJ for backup but never figured out how to transfer my posts (on Linun a sys). I'm hoping I can figure it out with DW.

With a perm account here, I don't plan on making the move

Yeah, the backing up is a snap with DW.

Amen about the icons. 6 against 197, it's a no brainer.

I'm going back and forth about using my DWidth account as back up. Is it really needed? Coz I like the idea of having an uncluttered icon journal over there.

I agree with you. I have all my comms here and my flist, so unless everybody moves, I'm staying here.

Very well said, yep, yep!

What LJ addon on Firefox are you talking about? 'Cause, I would consider using it...LOL. Love me some Firefox.

I think that'll probably be what I end up doing, yep.

This one right here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4536

I loves it to pieces!

I worship this addon! I have no idea how I used to live without it. And I agree about your Dreamwidth sentiments - just got an account there, http://dj-aida.dreamwidth.org/ - but I'm not really sure what I want to do with it. Back up? Maybe.

Or I could use it for art posts that have nothing to do with Mag7 (and I'm so sad there's so little time for me to make *new* Mag7 stuff here) like painting and calligraphy. I might crosspost for those, just a notice and a link in case anyone's interested.

But they don't have custom mood themes for free accounts! :wails: What you feel for icons, I feel for my itty bitty Ezra moods.

I love your Ezra moods! If I used moods, I would love something like that :)

They were made by [livejournal.com profile] woodsbaile_02, and I love them. I often can't decide which one I want to use (but lately, I seem to be using the same ones - or at least some more often than others).

Just thought of another possible use for DWidth - to post some of my Tolkien-related stuff. Back in the day, I wrote a paper on a Bosnian mode for Tengwar and published it on Elfscript. I even have the mode files for Tengscribe.

so how does the importer work if you've already imported your LJ over there? I'm just curious...
ext_9031: (Default)

[identity profile] ithildyn.livejournal.com 2009-05-04 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
It just imports the posts starting from the last import you made.

Oh kewl! Thanks!

I'm with you on this. I have the DW account primarily to consider as a back-up to this one. I have a perm account here and I'm not about to toss that investment baby out with the bath water. Thanks for posting the link to the importer tool - I'll research it then figure out a schedule to do a back-up.

I'm not in the mood to give up my icons and everything else I have here. :)
