'The Sea Witch'

Highlander Season One

The Sea Witch, Air Date: December 1992

Richie Ryan tries to protect an old girlfriend, Nikki, from a band of drug dealers. This puts them both in jeopardy from an Immortal, Voshin, whom MacLeod knows from an adventure during the Russian Revolution when he was trying to smuggle Russian nobles out of the country. Nikki complicates the story by withholding drug money she has stolen from the gang, thinking she can use it to make a better life for her small daughter. Tessa, meanwhile, becomes enamored of the child, raising issues for her and MacLeod. ~ recap and quotes via tv.com

Okay, without going back to watch this right now - I loved Duncan's part of the story line. I loved his involvement with Alexi and I thought the beheading was awesome and new.

I loved Tessa and the little girl and how she has to come to terms that she will never have her own child if she stays with Duncan. And she loves him enough to make that choice.

I did not like Richie's old girlfriend. She grated on my nerves. Badly. As a matter of fact, I didn't like any part of that storyline. But I loved the way Duncan kicked Alexi's goons butts. That was fun.

And the kiss -lol. That was not scripted at all. And the look on Adrian/Duncan's face was wonderful. Completely real and unexpected.

Really good show except the Richie part.

Seriously, the kiss? I think it's the most memorable thing in the episode - it's so out of nowhere. Anyone know the backstory there?

Ah, well, isn't this so often the case.

I agree with this. It was one of the better season 1 shows, and Duncan looked gooood in it, but the whole Richie subplot was utterly boring and badly played.

I'm reminded that one of the recent con-goers reported that David A. laughed hysterically when told that Stan K. was now teaching acting.

It wasn't David. It was Peter. It was in Sydney and Adrian said Stan was teaching acting and Peter laughed so hard he almost fell out of his chair. It was hysterical.

Oh dear. That makes me only love him more, but I do have to wonder how it went over with his colleagues....

This is what I mentioned in my con report back on May 9, 2005 after returning from Sydney. I was talking in general about all the moments in the con that I remembered and loved.

Peter throwing back his head and laughing so hard I was afraid he was going to fall out of his chair when Adrian said Stan was teaching acting now. The amused look on Adrian’s face as he watched Peter fall apart laughing.

Stand Back!-It's Stan Kirsch-ACTING GENIUS! "DAH DAH DUUMMM!"
(hope I don't get booted out fer this)

That needs an icon. SRSLY.

Oh, my. this is all just too, too funny.

Peter in Sydney, and it was hysterical. There was just this look of absolute evil glee on his face that made me love him all the more.

Oh, definitely. The most memorable moment of that epi, for me. Perfectly fitting and suggestive of a story of its own behind it.

The Kiss

As asked below, does anyone know the back-story? If it was not scripted what lead the actor do to it? Did AP haul off and sucker punch the guy after the shot. Clearly his reaction is not one of pleasure.

Roberta, I'm not sure why the actor did it, but Adrian mentioned it in the season one audio tapes he did. I'll try and find what he said and post it here tomorrow for you.

Maybe it was on a bet.

You're right, guys--for Season I, it wasn't a bad episode... sans Richie's part. Though if one wanted to be cheeky, one might have laughed long and hard at the idea of getting anyone out of Soviet Union in 1938 (and a literal boatload of people, of all things. And where the hell were they sailing to, anyway? In winter, over Baltic Sea...) But one must disregard all that because the look on AP's face during that kiss was most certainly worth the price of admission...

And where was Joe? *g* We know what Methos would do--laugh his ass of at Richie...!
