That's how many jars of preserves we ended up with when all was said and done. Plus the 12 jars of apricots. Then there's all the different liqueurs Nin's made. Got my brother a book on root cellaring, so maybe next year we can do some long term storage of veggies and such. He's also going to put in apple trees in the spring. More fruit! I still think we need a goat [g]

Yes! A goat!

And man, I wish you lived closer so I could snag some preserves. *drools*

A little pygmy goat! Well, two, they have to have company being herd animals.

Yeah, it would be a bit of a commute :)

Woot! That's awesome :) The liqueurs sound particularly interesting.

No goats! *is alarmed for you* Even though they look cute - Goats escape (a goat could have escaped from Alcatraz), they eat things you don't want them to eat, and boy goats smell and often have bad tempers :) Can you tell I've had bad experiences with them??

We were thinking of little pygmy goats, or maybe pygoras like a freind has. And we have such a lot of land with all sorts of sagebrush that turns into tumbleweeds, plus the deadfall fruit, that they'd be helpful -- plus I could start making cheese!

Wow cheese making too? That would be awesome.

I've toyed with the idea :) Would probably have to build a separate outbuilding for such endeavours however - maybe combine it with wine making.

what kind of preserves? Goats are awesome, we have some at the shelter I volunteer at and some of them are really sweet! There was one named Bill who was in the barn where rabbit hutches are kept, in the stall next to the one that has the hay and bedding etc. in it, every time I went to get something he'd come over and put his front legs up and see what I was doing and let me scratch his face :)

Apricot, peach, pear, raspberry, strawberry.

Goats is cute!

Mmmm strawberry preserves :) I've never heard of making pear preserves, interesting

Apple trees?! *shudders*
Last weekend, we (me and Dad) collected about 60 kg (~120 pounds) of apples - and that was just half of one tree! A very insidious tree I must say, it shot me in the back in the process!

We have one apple tree but it hasn't produced in two years.

I want a goat!
