I can't afford it right now, but if I get a paid account here, would my custom theme work here as well? I adore my LJ theme, and don't want to give it up.
I know that the themes are somewhat based on the LJ templates, but I don't know which one is which, but in theory it should be possible. There are a couple of communities dedicated to customising DW so maybe someone can answer your question there. Can't remember the name of them right now, sorry.
I keep meaning to try and find out more so I can customise mine. If I get around to remembering I'll let you know what I find out! :)
I'm pretty sure LJ themes can be ported even for free accounts, and that unlike on LJ, free accounts can have their own custom layer (I think paid accounts can have more). I'm sorry that I don't have any links for you, since I never wanted to import my layout but only to make a DW theme look similar. I'm sure I've seen people mention that Flexible Squares, Smooth sailing and some others can be ported.
Perhaps the best place to start would be [Bad username or unknown identity: http://style-system.dreamwidth.org/], and also a Google search on porting LJ layouts to DreamWidth. Hope that helps somewhat!
I think it depends on what style you use. I posted last night I figure out how to read and write the S2 coding in the developer area, so that will help me a lot as I transfer my other LJ layouts to here. But I had to find a basic DW style similar enough to Flexible Squares (which isn't on DW and has no exact replica here) and fine tune. I'm still fine-tuning. If you need to have a paid account to do that, gads, I can't remember!
Bummer, cus guess what? My theme is based on flexible squares. What did you end up using? I used to design friggin website and do the graphics, but the technology long ago passed my knowledge. I know just enough CSS to be dangerous :)

There were a lot of people asking about transferring layouts last week, so I'd scroll through the entries a bit...
