25 Outrageous Fashion Ads From The 1970s

Please may seventies fashion never ever come back again. I've already lived through it once :D

Those were great! And funny. I would love to see one of those posts on 60s fashion. Some was funny, but mostly I loved them. At least from the eyes of a child I did.

I started imagining Methos wearing some of those outfits and had a massive giggle attack [g]

Some Seventies fashions have been back twice since then in the UK - you can still get the horrendous prints and icky brown stuff in the shops, along with some of those blouse styles, though it has been messed up with the worst of the 1980s too (puffball skirts). Jumpsuits have been 'in' for a year or so. *shudders*

Have to admit I know quite a few people who would wear some of those Flagg shoes.

God, I'm glad I don't follow fashion.

I know segments have come back, but I was more thinking along the lines of the whole horrible ball of wax LOL [remembering the pleather white go-go boots I had when I was 10]

It's terrible but I kind of want to knit one of those horrible sweaters for the Whut? factor. XD

ROTFL! You might be an Etsy sensation!

Bringing back truly horrible sweater fashions! I need some extra income XD

Men in Belted Sweaters - sounds like the title of a dodgy movie or maybe a band of Super Heros!

I am still reeling from the "Sweater Pants" ... Those 1980s bodies were bad enough for girls in the 80s but at least they had poppers at the crotch ( which unpopped at the worst moments)
A knitted nylon version, for blokes, how would they pee?

Whats with the women hanging onto knees?

Love the flares, loved the 70s , a decade when you could tell a mans religion through the tightness of his jeans

There isn't enough brain bleach to erase the memory of those images....YIKES.

[nods] Indeed!

Wow. I'm glad I missed the 70s fashions wise, lol. The jumpsuits, funky patterns, and the sweater everythings? Way too much. I did like some of the shoes though :)

Plus the ads are all so dorky, yet so serious, heh. And from the pics I have to assume people were obsessed with chest hair and crotches...

*shudders*

Amen.

God, I was having The Professionals flashbacks for some of those outfits! Given that the models are all fit and young, I can only despair for the poor slobs who might have carried a few extra pounds anywhere between the rib cage and thighs.

Flagg Brothers--pimpwear at it's finest, snort!

I was in high school in the '70's, and the only good thing about it was Angel's Flight pants. On teenage butts. *fond memories*

The nice thing about retro fashion is that one can pick and choose which items one likes (if any).

The 70s had the weirdest collection of inspirations and so many during a single decade, it was almost schizophrenic. I'm inclined to believe that was the reason so much of the clothing doesn't hold up 30 plus years later and it's so DATED. It's not as bad in the 80s or the 90s, but you see something from the 70s and you just KNOW it's from the 70s.

Ahahaha! OMG, was there NOTHING they would not knit in the 70s?!?

Thank you, that's the best laugh of the weekend so far! :D

Curious! What really struck me in these ads was the high percentage of women either hanging on their men's legs (what?) or otherwise clinging to them in very-strange-in-public ways. There is more touching in general between the models in these ads than in today's ads, and a lot of it is touching that is a little off by today's standards in Real Life, never mind a posed ad.
