Highlander Chronicles Musings

My story for [livejournal.com profile] hl_chronicles is due in September, and I've had a pretty good idea of what it's going to be since I signed up. I really was going to try and not make it a crossover, honest to goodness. And I've occasionally batted back a pushy character, who really thought he should be in it, who shall remain nameless, but now he brought friends to rush me, and damn it, I think it's going to be a crossover. It just seems to work better as I'm mentally constructing it. Maybe I'll write two versions, one that's not a xover for the Chronicles and a xover one for me. Or not. Thoughts? Tequila? Commiseration?

And now I want to watch PotC CotBP, which is actually in no way related to the above, though now I've thought about it, Jack is pretty sure he should be in the story and I should move it back a few centuries.

I haven't got a clue what I'm doing for my story that is due in September. I'm still struggling with a few casting choices for my Highlander: The Series Reboot pitch that's due in August. I'm calling it a "pitch" because I've got not only fantasy casting choices, but a pilot synopsis and a five year plan for the full rebooted series. O.o

Well mine is a cross-over. The more the merrier.

A crossover gives it a slightly better chance to have at least some of the characters be familiar to other fandoms, but that's just my 2 cents' worth (that really isn't worth the 2 cents.)

Speaking of Captain Jack, maybe you could distract him with the newish tequila & rum alcohol that's out these days? Something Red, I think - I just keep seeing it in Hulu ads. I wonder if the hangover is worse...

Oooh, I could so easily wind up writing a Highlander/Torchwood crossover. It's not even funny. *Facepalms.*

What I think is fun about this is the way that the stories aren't going in the direction you first thought they would go. And how much fun it is to rediscover HL. And then how demanding the plot bunnies become.

My reboot is three-quarters finished, and it didn't go quite the way I envisioned it, I may literally have a cast of thousands (technically) in here. Because the daughter of a character showed up and demanded to be included in her real father's life again, and it just went off from there.

On the other hand, my episode tag is showing potential to be a xover, but that's just because of the episode I picked, and I'm struggling to keep any xover small and perhaps anonymous.

And on the third hand, once I got into that whole HL thing again, well -- damn. I just wrote an outline for a Methos/MacLeod centered season 6. Why did I agree to do this again?

This has nothing to do with your post, but I thought you'd appreciate it.

There are other Lokis! It's almost enough to make me want an iPhone.

Right, so, HL commiseration. At the moment I'm trying to decide if I want to shift one of mine from a thing I've never done before and which feels like an awful lot of effort but which I really want to do to all of that plus bonus fic. So, I feel you on the decision making. My only advice would be to say do what comes naturally. What flows for you and what do you hit walls with? Because if what flows is a crossover, by all means, do it. I've found folks are often willing to read a crossover with a fandom they don't know so long as they love the primary fandom. And if your crossover source is easily accessible/explainable? You're in even better shape.

I'm usually fairly quiet on my own LJ and I'm absolute crap at commenting on fic (for which I heartily apologize) but I'm always happy to bat ideas around if you want a sounding board.

Tequila and rum? UGH! That sounds pretty awful.

Why did I agree to do this again?

I keep asking myself that.

Yeah, it's just there are people who hate crossovers and I thought since I always do them, I should try not to this time.

I'll ponder :)
