If Immortals Were Real

(this isn't a Santa Claus moment, is it?)

Let's say Immortals were real, and you met one, and you found out what they were, and they were hot. Well, okay, not necessarily hot, but you found them attractive, and this is a fantasy, so...

Would you actually want to be involved with one? And by involved, we can go with boyfriend/girlfriend, husband/wife, generic lover. Whatever [g] Pick what works for you.

A simple 'yes', 'no', or 'it depends' will suffice, but it would be fun to hear the reasoning behind your answer.

Were I single and I encountered Adam Pierson or Cory Raines, I'd have to say I'd be more than happy to entertain whatever dalliances they were game for. So, in a word, yes.

I've been married for so long, it's kind of hard for me to imagine that generic lover mentality, though. LOL

Sorry for being wordy.

Helllllllllls yes.

Sure, eventually it would get woeful, when they were going to live forever and look young and hot and I got old, but I would stay involved with one for however long we were both happy.

Yes... I think.

Difficult question, though. It's like the flip (or perhaps the complimentary?) side to the question - 'Would you get involved with someone who you knew was going to die in six months?'.

Wow, I'm just reeling in those happy chirpy thoughts today...

If I were the type for casual flings, then yeah, but I'm not. As for actually involved in some kind of ongoing relationship more than friendship... no.

Because one of two things would happen. Either I would get old and die while the immortal stayed the same, or one day the immortal just wouldn't come home, no warning, no way to prepare (and yeah, I know anybody could get hit by a bus or whatever, but it's still not the same when you expect the person to live "forever")

Yeah, I think I'd say 'no' as well, and for many of the same reasons. I suppose if I had no family that might be endangered by the relationship, I'd be more inclined, but I'd think the dangers would make me decide no.

It's kind of what Nat told Nick in FK, in 'Fever', that one day she was afraid she'd be like Tracy, with no one to share her grief with. If you were married/involved with an immortal, and they never came home, you'd really have no one you could ever talk to.

I'm such a cheery soul!

If I wasn't married? Hell. Yes. End of discussion...

However, since I'm happily married (yes, still in the honeymooner mode) I'd turn them away... even an Adrian Paul-esque character. ;)

Casually, yes, but not for the most important relationship in my life, no. I prefer to stay out of warzones.

Yes. As the song says, "One year of love is better than a lifetime of emptiness..."

[identity profile] jotribe.livejournal.com 2007-06-27 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
well, yes! Because they would probably be hot, understanding, and damn interesting.

This one is actually tough. On one hand, I'd say yes, because think of all that first-hand history you'd be able to learn, all of the experiences that he/she had experienced. You'd have your own walking history book.

On the other hand, knowing that I would grow old and die, or he/she might never come home at all would be a deterrent. Of course, there's no guarantee that something like that wouldn't happen with a mortal, either.

*shrugs* I guess it would just have to be one of those things that I'd have to actually experience to know what I would do.

Well, yes, you have a point there! :D

Yeah. Think of all the things they might have seen. But if they were attracted, and I was attracted--what difference would it really make to the matter that they were Immortal and I wasn't?

After all, I'd get to be remembered by someone for a long time. And this is my fantasy--so it would be wonderful memories.

Oh Hell yes! Er, to enthusiastic? A simple yes. Well, I should say that's based on your saying, "Pick what works for you."

If I knew fully not just what he was, but what his life was like, and he was willing to commit to me for as long as I'd live, then most definitely. I wouldn't be scared of his being part of the Game. I wouldn't get jealous of his staying young while I got old. I like to say I decided I didn't want kids when I was 6 after the second time I had to change the diaper on my Betsy Wetsy doll. I wouldn't be bothered by the not being able to have kids. I'd know that while he wasn't physically getting older he was spending years out of his life with me, as many or as few as we'd have together. "Twenty years. Six months. What's the difference," cuts both ways. If I outlived him I'd go on like the man that loved Rebecca, and if I died first I'd be content with being someone's, "Who would remember Alexa then?"

I'd do a one nighter, which makes me sound much more fluzy-ish than I am. I wouldn't be interested in a long-term angst-ridden affair. Great sex and then great friends? I could do that. I mean who wouln't want to - just once - with an immortal. Think what you could learn. Erm . . . like some one said, walking history book. Yeah.

Seriously, though, in the long run, I'd be far more interested in befriending poor sad immortal than having a desperate doomed-to-failure love affair.

There's that fence sitting thing again!

I can definitely sign this...plus the 'walking history book' thingie... I guess I would be pretty fascinated by all the experience an Immortal would bring along (in many ways *g*)...and since I am not married: bring 'em on *lol* Seriously...I'd give it a shot...

I think i would be too caught up in the whole 'am i one' or 'how can i become one' idea. Like most mere mortals i have that inherent fear of death and the idea of living for a great deal of time would appeal to me more than falling in love at first.

However if i had all ready fallen or showed interest and the immortality of said hotty was found out post-smitten then i would have to say it would depend. If it's a fling then i doubt it would come up. If it was serious or turning toward the serious then we would have to sit down and have a long long long chat about things. This sort of relationship would be hard and difficult for both partners and probably require a lot more work than the average relationship (the kind that people work out and not run to get divorced over is what i'm talking about). Provided we were both willing to be open-minded and work things out and care very deeply I think it could work. It would just have that added strangeness or being married to an immortal.

Course maybe i could get him to teach me to sword fight :) BONUS!!

Yes!

[identity profile] kazlynh.livejournal.com 2007-06-28 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
Definitely yes!!!!!

I know some people would find it difficult to get involved when there's no possibility of having children, etc, but that doesn't really bother me.

The chance to wake up next to Methos or Duncan would be worth it all. We only have one chance at this life (unless you believe in reincarnation) so we need to grab it with both hands and live it!!!!

Live, love and never regret...
