A Friday Shindig

It's not going to be a good day when you open your email and the only two comments on your LJ are spam. The same spam as yesterday in fact! Harbinger of Doom? Maybe.

I always thought Steak and Ale pie was a way to get rid of leftover roast. But I couldn't find a single recipe that didn't call for uncooked meat. So I modified one of those recipes using my chunk-o-roast from the freezer. Tonight, just have to pour on the Yorkshire pudding topping and bake it. Then [livejournal.com profile] ninjababe is going to colour my hair in preparation of my haircut. Haircut and no gray! Yay!

We got caught up on Burn Notice last night. Damn, I love that show!! It is full of pure awesome.

Was reading some of the comments yesterday of people who've seen the new cut of The Source, and apparently it sucks even more than the Russian one did! Way to go, PTBs! A real accomplishment there.

And in honour of FRIDAY, the comments are open for a free for all, a rumble, a hootenanny, a shindig even! There will be comestibles and an assortment of adult beverages for you to enjoy when you visit. I'll see you there.

Starting the Shindig

Stole this from [livejournal.com profile] rivendellrose

1. At the end of today, do you think you'll feel spent or refreshed?

Spent

2. Do you like back rubs?

God yes! Not that I ever get any, but I do love them.

3. When did you last mislead someone?

Trying to ferret out info for a friend's birthday gift last month.

4. What color are your eyes?

Green, dark though, not a pretty bright green. Sort of like the ocean looks when its really overcast. Dirty green [g]

5. Friday fill-in:

Just once, I wish I could go an entire day without worrying over something.

1. I'll be completely exhausted, mentally, physically and emotionally.
2. I love them. I don't ever get them anymore, but I love them.
3. I don't truly recall. Probably avoiding a telemarketer or something.
4. Blue with some grey on the edges and goldish close to my pupils.
5. I second your fill-in!

1. At the end of today, do you think you'll feel spent or refreshed?

Definitely spent, wrung out, drooping, ready to drop

2. Do you like back rubs?

Oh please yes!??

3. When did you last mislead someone?

This morning... trying to keep work buddy's from shrink wrapping my car....

4. What color are your eyes?

Blue-grey

5. Friday fill-in:

For having to work on my birthday, it's been a good day!

I wouldn't have thought it was POSSIBLE to make the Source worst - it was like the Platonic ideal of badness. Don't think I'll watch to compare, though. I'm going to HLWW in Vancouver and I'm going to be so embarrassed for everyone involved.

Man, this morning half my flist is having a crap morning! I feel a little guilty for being OK so far. Other than really wanting to go BACK TO BED.

It really will be embarrassing. Ugh.

It does seem to be a bad morning all around, doesn't it? [knock wood] so far things are going pretty much okay here.

Anyone else watching this? Nin and I love it. It's become one of our favourite shows.

Hi Ith! How are the smutty paws? *winks*

I haven't seen "Army Wives". But I love "The Unit" for it's combination of Special Forces action and back-home drama.

I'm almost done with that recording of "Olive Branch", and it turns out that my iPod isn't really dead, it was just having a little nap. Also, the BSG vid I'm working on seems to have confused the crap out of my beta.

I'm back to work Monday, after my Summer of doing nothing. It will be hard, hard, hard.

Not so smutty today, alas.

I've heard The Unit is good, but I've never seen it. I think it might have been one of those DVR schedule conflict ones :)

Sounds like you've been busy! And yeah, having to go back to work must be hard. Do you like what you do, or is it just a job that pays the bills?

Ah, so that's why you had the summer off. I don't think I realized you were a teacher :) What sort of teacher?

In the past, I've always either worked or taken classes all summer, so it was a big deal for me, being off.

I teach math and science to 14 year-olds in an urban middle school. It's fun; they're crazy.

But the talented and friendly special education teacher that I was co-teaching with for 2 hours a day has left, and I'm not sure yet who they'll be pairing me up with this year. I'm a bit anxious about it.

Comestibles! (This might just have to be my favorite word of all time.) Adult beverages!

Friday! New Toys! I'm going to make chocolates!

This is not spam! It just looks like it because of the exclamation points!

LOL! As long as they keep the snowballs outside.

So what new toys allow you to make chocolates?

I went to the cake store to buy flavorings and a new mold. And I came home with that castle set for cakes. I'm about to post pictures because I can't stop playing with them.

I'm scheming....there are just so many cool castle cakes to make. I need to stop and go play with chocolate instead though.

Cool! My friend has a Sand Castle mold, and she made my BD cake with it.

Now that sounds like fun! Where did she find one that she could bake with? Or is it a pan?

This (http://some-day-soling.livejournal.com/278224.html) one isn't like that. It's just the turrets, windows and a door. Oh and a peak that can go over the door.

I just got back from a day of running errands on the bus. Tired, hot, sweaty, and two of my three cats are having seperation anxiety issues. The third one could give a shit less.

I need a nap.

On the plus side, the Lotto is up to $300 million. I have tickets. If you never hear from me again after tomorrow night, you'll know why. *beams*

Burn Notice LOVE!

What's with the yogurts, do you think?

And can I say, I adore Fiona. They're doing a very good job making her a good character and not just important only as a love interest.
ext_9031: (Art - Haida Mask)

[identity profile] ithildyn.livejournal.com 2007-08-24 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
The yogurt, I have no idea. But Fiona, I adore! You know what I noticed last night? She's sitting on the couch next to the guy, and she's sitting like a girl who was given deportment lessons. Her back was ramrod straight, her wrists crossed in her lap, her head held up. I thought it was a curious bit of body language for her character, and Nin and I had a long discussion as to whether or not it was done on purpose.

[identity profile] elistaire.livejournal.com 2007-09-01 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
She's done it a couple times. I don't know if it is the actress or just something that is part of the character --who knows, maybe Fiona was sent to finishing school? We don't know anything about her youth. Of course, she's trained to do whatever she has to, so I'd be surprised if at some point she hadn't learned etiquette stuff to blend in at whatever social level she needed to.

I'm so thrilled, too, that they dealt with the sex thing early in the life of the show -- now it'll be focused on the other issues, not just the Michael/Fiona "when will they do it" question. And they followed it up with a second episode that dealt nicely with it, too!

Love!!

sorry but i'm curious:what's an Ale pie?
Ale
ext_9031: (Default)

[identity profile] ithildyn.livejournal.com 2007-08-25 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
A steak and ale pie is roast beef, onions, mushrooms with a dark ale sauce/gravy with a Yorkshire pudding or puff pastry top.

wow sounds tasty:thanks for the explanation.
