All I want...

is a Dyson. No, not the hot one from Lost Girl (though if someone can provide such, I'll take him!). No, what I want for my birthday is a Dyson vacuum cleaner. I've had several people who have pet heavy homes tell me that it's a life saver. If I save my pennies, lots of them, I may try and get a refurbished one at some point.

In the absence of a Dyson, may I recommend a Sweepa? As the (former) owner of a Chow Chow and the current owner of a Pom-mix, I can honestly say this thing works wonders on taking up pet hair off of hardwood and carpet alike. (Carpet requires short, light strokes, but it works.)

woot.com

Woot is a daily deal site and they have refurb Dysons up ever couple of weeks. I bought a refurb Dyson over 5 years ago and I *love* it. I don't have pets, but co-workers do and they say the Dyson did the best job for them

They may pick up stuff, but since they have no bag, it can be bad for people with allergies, unless you have someone else willing to empty it outside and away from you.

Mind you I have an Electrolux that was a gift from my MIL. She still has the one that Grandma used, as well as the one she got when she married 50+ years ago. All of them still working. Mine has bags designed for filtration, so no escaping dust!

I'd see if you have a vacuum repair place nearby and ask them their recommendations.

The Lost Girl version was totally my first thought, too. *G*

I loooove ours. We got the hot pink pet-hair oriented model and it's love. It picks up everything.

I've heard the "Shark" brand is just as good and a bit cheaper, however.
