For Once

I actually ate dinner by six. I was starving! Just used some corn tortillas and made something of a sandwich with scrambled eggs and cheese. It wasn't bad.

Nin's at work tonight, so I hope to get some writing done. But my mind has been uncooperative. For some reason, I'm obsessed with researching something that I need to know for a Queen of Swords fic. But it isn't even something that happens in the next one, but the third one! Does anyone else get sidetracked by future fic?

There's been talk in several places about email being even less than usual, and lack of LJ comments. Is the internet shifting again? With more and more people using cell phone type things for access, is that morphing where we spend our internet time? I moved over to LJ from email because it seemed most people I knew had moved there. Even just the week I've been on Twitter, I can see how it could soak up a lot of what used to go in LJ posts or an email. Just wondering :)

And YAY!! New Grey's Anatomy on Thursday! [does happy dance]

[waves] to anyone else around tonight.

it has been quiet for the last few days, really. Think maybe they were all raptured?

LOL! Well, I hope not since I would expect to go too [g]

BTW, loved your fic questions post. You made me remember things I'd forgotten!

Well, don't particularly believe in the rapture. But I guess if it happened it would suck to be left behind. Especially if it ended up anything like those novels:)

Thanks! I've been giving it thought lately and it's always fun to hear other people's opinions.

I haven't read the books, though I'm familiar with the concept [g]

My mum was involved in an extremely fundamentalist church when I was growing up -- no makeup, jewelry, hair in a bun, dresses only, no TV or movies, the church services were in people's homes -- so I avoid that sort of thing like the plague these days. My shining moment was when I was a teenager and challenged one of the visiting 'workers'. After that, my mum started to see things differently, and left their church. Thank God! I went back to the faith I'd been born into, which was Anglican.

wow.

I have nothing against Christianity, I think at it's core it's very beautiful. but man, can the fundamentalists be nutty at times.

It was an interesting experience. Not that the people weren't really loving, decent, and caring, but it wasn't something I would choose for myself. I mean, come on, a life without meeting Methos?!? [g] Or Sephora? Or red wine? :)

[identity profile] amonitrate.livejournal.com 2008-04-22 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. The people are often wonderful, totally. It just seems like such a rigid world view sometimes.

What was interesting is that they really did try to remain separate. They weren't really interested in evangelizing. If people found them, that was one thing, but otherwise they didn't seek out converts. Their ministers, what they called workers, were totally supported by the families in their area. They'd live for a few months with each family, with nothing of their own for the most part. Men and women.

[identity profile] amonitrate.livejournal.com 2008-04-22 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
that is interesting. I have a lot of respect for that. It's the people who aggressively evangelize that tend to get on my nerves. Had a few run ins as a kid, so that's probably why.

And you now probably know more about me than a lot of people do! :)

thanks for sharing!

There are advantages to that life style, in some ways. Life can be simpler. But for me I think the disadvantages would be too much.

Dunno. When I'm in cyberspace, I'm usually in LJ land:)

Have you ever heard of facebook? I know that's where practically all of my friends have moved to. And all the people I know, period, actually. It was originally designed for college students, but now even my boyfriend's parents have accounts!

In the circles of people i know, blogs like LJ and xanga were really big when i was in high school. Then they took a big drop in popularity after freshman year at college (about three years ago). Facebook came out four years ago and was a huge hit with college kids. Since then they've opened it up to high schoolers and then to everyone. It's a lot like myspace, really, but I guess its users are still primarily college age people, as opposed to myspace's teenagers and pedophiles, lol.

I've heard of it. And get invites frequently. But I'm stretched too thin internet wise as it is, so haven't been all that interested in checking it out :)

Sidetracked by future fic? Yeah, it happens. :P

As far as Internet goes, for me, it depends where I know the people from. The people I'm at school with I usually talk to via e-mail (unless we're using text messages on our cells). And I get some LJ comments, but then again, I don't post all that much so I'm probably not the best indicator. Other than that, I'm a lot at the DLC and people there chat as much as ever. Although it may not be visible to a casual viewer coz most of the chatting happens on private boards reserved for DLs, but not all of it.

It tends to go in spells. I think I have a facebook account - I was over there once but couldn't really figure it out and never went back. I have a Vox account too, but same thing. Maybe I'll just whisp away when everyone leaves me over here.
