'Women Are Awesome' Meme

Pillaged from [livejournal.com profile] havocthecat.

Comment with the name of a female character and I'll tell you why I love her. In return, you can do the same in your journal. :D

And a bit of a reverse, if I have an Sharpe fans on my f'list - and I know some of you are - tell me why Teresa Moreno rocks [g] Because she's who I'd comment with.

I know there's been lots of discussion about the treatment of women in fandom, but you all know how I feel about the subject. So I'll spare you another go round.

How about Jeanette?

Janette is probably one of my fave characters. Despite her nature and her age, she hasn't lost all of her humanity. She still has compassion for the 'strays' be they vampire or mortal.

*Grins.* Glad I remembered right about her being one of your faves! I forgot to include Teresa Moreno love. *Facepalm.* In the books I love how much of a spitfire she is. In the TV show I love the intelligence and warmth Assumpta Serna gives her.

Teresa is just awesome in both the movies and the books. She is fiercely independent yet willing to be depend on Sharpe for certain things. She's loyal and not someone you would like to cross. She stands her ground and someone you want in your corner.

Yep! I love her so much.

Amanda is my first choice but I'd also be interested in seeing what you thought of Tessa Alvarado/Queen of Swords.
ext_9031: (Highlander - Amanda: Flirt)

[identity profile] ithildyn.livejournal.com 2010-01-30 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
Amanda is resourceful, a survivor, and has a sense of fun and a delight in life despite her 1000+ years.

Tessa, even though living in a society that had many restrictions for women, still sought out an instructor to learn how to use a sword.

It's been a really long time since I've seen any Sharpe, but I lovedlovedLOVED Teresa and was incredibly pissed when she was killed off. She was a total ninja and clearly had excellent taste in men. ;D

Yeah, I loved Teresa, and I loved her portrayal by Assumpta Serna.

Oh I agree! My sister is still pissed when she was killed. I haven't seen Sharpe in a while, and I haven't read the books yet, but she's probably the most memorable character from the episodes I have seen. ♥

How about Donna Noble?
ext_9031: (Art - Royo: Eyes)

[identity profile] ithildyn.livejournal.com 2010-01-30 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Donna is great because she is an 'ordinary' person, and I mean that in a good way. She's the embodiment of the average person who steps up to do extraordinary things when called upon.

I'm curious as to your thoughts on my favorite Chuck character, Sarah Walker.

Sarah puts her duty before her own happiness. She's dedicated, smart, and extraordinarily good at a very difficult job.

How about Mary Travis (Mag 7)?
ext_9031: (Vintage - Green Sleeve)

[identity profile] ithildyn.livejournal.com 2010-01-30 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Mary makes her own way in the world in a time when it wasn't easy to do for a woman alone. She sticks to her principles, even when it isn't popular, and won't let anyone destroy her dream.

OMG, Teresa! I love how she followed her code of honor completely outside the bounds of what was permitted to women, became something other to the men she led, without ever allowing herself to lose sight of her humanity or her joie de vivre.

Also, you have to admire the woman's approach to rapists. Run for the door! Lock it so the scum can't get away. Take your time.

She was very much a woman and sacrificed that.

Gina, Miami Vice.

It has been so long since I saw Miami Vice.... I do remember really admiring Gina when the show was first on the air, I was 21 at the time. She wasn't just window dressing, she was a fully fledged cop doing her job. They didn't just bring her out for romantic interactions with Sonny.

[identity profile] toriahowell.livejournal.com 2010-01-30 09:12 am (UTC)(link)
Love Teresa. She was the only woman with a strong enough sense of self to actually get Sharpe to listen to her and love her (personally I think he was only infatuated with all the others, even Jane). She never lost sight of her femininity whilst operating within a male orientated environment, and could beat any of them at their own game. I too was extremely annoyed when she was killed off!

She a working woman with a real job who excels at what she does. And she gets to be brave and help save the world even without being a superhero. And does it all in gorgeous shoes [g]

Brekke (Pern)

And guess I really should watch/read Sharpe:). My very close friends from another city are big fans of his, so I spent last visit to them listenning about Sharpe and telling about M7 boys:).

[identity profile] ithildyn.livejournal.com 2010-01-30 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I think you'd enjoy them. I've only read the first three books, but have all the movies.

Brekke is a survivor. she suffered a horrible loss but managed to find life at the other end.
