While visiting the courthouse to clear up Tessa's traffic tickets, MacLeod, Tessa, and Richie are among a group that is taken hostage by a band of men bent on freeing their leader, Slade, from imprisonment. When Slade's demands are not met, he chooses a hostage to sacrifice. MacLeod makes sure that hostage is himself, and returns from the dead to hunt down the gunmen one by one, as the police watch helplessly from outside. ~ recap and quotes via tv.com

Brilliant, nuanced work that spins gold from a straw. It was written for the original Lyric Wheel, which was a rich source of fine stories, many featuring secondary and minor characters. I do love this fandom.

This episode was incredibly so-so, but I vaguely recall thinking Richie wasn't too bad in it (and I never liked Richie in much of anything), and of course we have the reoccuring actor theme starting up with the baddie being the same actor who played the villain in "Little Tin God" - a much better episode.

I do wonder how much of a headache getting shot in the head, and then recovering, give you. Ouch.

I've always wondered about the 'getting shot in the head' thing too. I mean, there was no blood there - no splattered brains. And he seemed to revive really fast.

The fanfiction I've read where there was at least some question of survival and mental recuperation seemed much more believable.

You know, I guess I'm one of those people who can find something in all the shows that I like. I thought Duncan looked great. And I liked his interaction with the little girl.

Richie was okay and Tessa was very brave. All in all, I didn't think it was a bad ep.

I recall lots of folks not liking this ep, but it's actually one of my S1 favs. I enjoy the repartee and the change of location, and the little girl is adorable. Plus, nowadays you can watch it and wince at the outfits.

Mostly, my only thought on this one is that it followed the trend of TV shows doing their own versions of Die Hard. There was one on Lois and Clark, and one on Booker, and I'm sure there must have been others at the time.
