While visiting the courthouse to clear up Tessa's traffic tickets, MacLeod, Tessa, and Richie are among a group that is taken hostage by a band of men bent on freeing their leader, Slade, from imprisonment. When Slade's demands are not met, he chooses a hostage to sacrifice. I've always wondered about the 'getting shot in the head' thing too. I mean, there was no blood there - no splattered brains. And he seemed to revive really fast.

The fanfiction I've read where there was at least some question of survival and mental recuperation seemed much more believable.
