The Very Last of the Five Things

I already did this here, but [livejournal.com profile] strangevisitor7 tossed me five more. so last round!

1) Norrington and Sparrow (the cats)

We rescued Sparrow just before we moved out of the house in Carmel six years ago. Nin and I were on a real PotC kick at the time, and wanted t name her Jack, but she was a girl. So I thiught of Sparrow. Norrington, we got as a kitten from [livejournal.com profile] taselby. We thought of calling *him* Jack, but he looked so prim and proper in his little gray morning suit fur, Admiral Norrington came to us. Plus, he was always chasing Sparrow around :)

2) Nin
My House Elf and Heterosexual Life Partner (my former boss dubbed her that. Both him and Nin were big Jay and Silent Bob fans, and apparently that's in a movie)! Nin aka [livejournal.com profile] ninjababe and I met on the Forever Knight IRC channel about 14 years ago. She asked me to beta her FK/X Men fic (little did i know she'd be trying to force comics on me for ever after!) About a year later, she got on a Greyhound bus and left TN for CA. She moved in with us, my mum found her a job, and we're still together all these years later.

3) PW conventions
The PWFC holds small cons regularly for club members. I went to my first one in Reno, where I met [livejournal.com profile] robi_travels actually. It's a great way to see a new city and visit with friends. And Peter being around isn't half bad either :)

4) Collaborator - co-conspirator - writing partner.
The 'Bloodties' series initially started out as a collaboration between me, [livejournal.com profile] ninjababe, [livejournal.com profile] aka_arduinna, [livejournal.com profile] otterevil, and [livejournal.com profile] yarrow_blue 13 odd years ago. We shared one big Highlander/Forever Knight universe. after that, I went back to my solitary self :) Then [livejournal.com profile] strangevisitor7 borrowed my character Charlotte and I don't think she's giving her back anytime soon! So now, I'm collaborating again. Which I'm remembering how fun it is to do.

5) Tony, Ezra and Charlotte in Bali (this last one is a bit evol I know as that is the story that must never be told)

Okay, here's the deal. Way back last year, when I was writing Practical Applications, after Tony Stark walked into my Highlander fic and took over, I made two references to Bali, sort of throwaway lines:

'You're coming with me to Afghanistan'. That's sure what it had sounded like. Charlotte's brain did a double take, then followed up with dozens of possible replies to his outrageous statement. She picked the most direct one. "No, I'm not."

"That's it? Just 'no, I'm not'. No curiosity, no questions, nothing?" He obviously had not been expecting that response.

"That about covers it." Nope, not falling into that trap. Questions and curiosity would only give Tony an opening to try and lure her into whatever mad scheme he had percolating in his brain. Been, there done that, wasn't doing it again. She'd learned her lesson in Bali.

And a bit later...

He obviously seemed to take that as a compliment. “Come on, you know it’s true. We’ve been friends for over six years, you stay at my house, I stay at yours. I remember your birthday—“

“Pepper remembers my birthday,” she corrected, dropping back into the rocker.

Tony continued as if he hadn’t been interrupted, “We’ve traveled all over the world together. Remember that trip to Bali?”

“I do, but I’m pretty sure you don't.” Considering how much he’d had to drink, he probably didn’t.

Ignoring her chilly tone, he exclaimed, “That was a great time!”

“You have got to be kidding.” Her voice was a study in disbelief.

“You had fun!”

“I was almost killed!”

“Yeah, but you weren’t, and now we can look back at it and laugh.”

“Yes that’s exactly what I do: think back and laugh,” she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

Somehow, the 'trip to Bali' has taken on a life of its own. I've been asked many time what happened in Bali, and it's almost becoming pie level in this series [g] Then, afterward, when I'd started writing M7 and added Immortal Ezra to the mix, I realized Ezra had been in Bali with Tony and Charlotte. The mind boggles! Honestly, I'm not sure I'll ever write it, because I think it's more fun for everyone to have their own idea. But I kind of see it was something of a Road movie, you know like 'Road to Bali' with Bing, Bob, and Dorothy. There's a poker game, a lot of booze (well, yeah, it's Tony, so....), Tony somehow loses Charlotte to an oil sheik, and hijinks ensue.

And that is the legendary 'Trip to Bali' story!

"hijinks ensue"!!!!

That's it?!

You do realize this will only peak people's interest and we'll only start hounding you to write the "Bali story", right?

(umm, so, are Tony and Ezra done fighting over who gets to be "Bing Crosby" yet? I don't really see either of them admitting to being "Bob Hope"! :D)

That's it [g]

I do actually have Road to Bali on backorder with Amazon. Who knows what will happen one I've seen it again after all these years?

As for who's Bing, your guess is as good as mine :)

Was Forever Knight your first fandom? remember fkfanfic-l?

First online fandom -- that and Highlander. I've been involved in fandom since before the internetz [g]

Yes, I do remember. I left a few years ago after getting tired of wondering which rule I'd accidentally broken this time :) That, and feedback died totally over there. Then I found LJ!

Brain Twin! That was my start also! Did you see Babylon 5? Man that was a great show!!

Yep, B5 was a good show, though I wasn't fannish about it. I did meet Mira on a cruise though. she and her husband were delightful.

[identity profile] kensieg.livejournal.com 2009-03-03 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
It's a good thing you didn't; they were a strange bunch. Meeting Mira sounds cool.

did you write in an apa? Did you mimeo?
ext_9031: (Default)

[identity profile] ithildyn.livejournal.com 2009-03-03 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
No, I wasn't really into media fandom then. I belonged to a Science Fiction club, and we had a newsletter we mimeoed, and I eventually become president of the club before we moved back to the States. When I wrote back then, it was original fic.

Cool!

14 years? 14 YEARS? Ugh, I feel old now. They grow up so fast

Pretty sure, since I got online on late 95. Yes, they do!

[identity profile] kensieg.livejournal.com 2009-03-03 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
feeling old? don't talk to me about old. I graduated from high school 30 years ago! I remember VP Agnew's resignation.

Yay for adding to the Bali mystique!! It is like pie - that reference that permeates the modern part of the universe.

Pepper remembers my birthday,” she corrected, dropping back into the rocker. I still love that exchange between tony and Charlotte!!

big Jay and Silent Bob fans, and apparently that's in a movie Yep Love that movie!! and it so fits for you and Nin

I had no idea that the pie thing wold follow he back into the OW!

[identity profile] strangevisitor7.livejournal.com 2009-03-03 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I know that many OW stories have a pie reference - I've been called on continuing that "fandom" conceit - but you can actually say you created that quirk of Charlotte's long before we added Mag7 to the mix - which i find as a sign that you were doomed to include mag7 in Charlotte's life right from the beginning.

Now I need an Icon of Vin and Ezra - just like this one I have of Sam and Dean *looks at icon*

LOL, that would be cool. And fannish. But there's nothing wrong with that in my mind :)

[identity profile] tpena19.livejournal.com 2009-03-04 05:46 am (UTC)(link)
Love the Bali drops, they are cool. I think it's cool not to know the specifics and only get hints here and there.
