I have lots to say, but no energy to type it out. Though I will say I hate it when you have an insect under your shirt, on your back, trying to bite you. And even when it's gone, you feel like bugs are crawling all over you. Ugh. Let's see, what else? IM II is fast approaching! I can't wait! Am way behind on TV, and other than wrting stupid ficlets with Nick Fury, I have had no desire to write. Which sucks. I blame my job for sucking the creativity out of me. Speaking of fic, i see the subject of Mary Sue once again runs rampant across the internetz. I have nothing to add to what you already know I think about the subject, but I will say it's very heartening to have found so many more women that are fed up and aren't going to stand for it anymore. Amen! Kitten Batch One is growing up fast, and they've started eating hard food. They are four weeks old now. Everything else will have to wait for another post - or not.

And as for Mary Sues... well. If you're writing in a fandom with primarily male characters... you, as a writer, and we, as readers (and I believe that most fandoms are quite a bit more percent female than male) need someone to relate to. Hence either the necessity for an OFC... or slash. I admire the authors who can pull off a consistent and believable OFC, I really, really do. "Mary Sue" accusations really only belong with really awful and juvenile and OOC fic... which are going to be cringeworthy anyway, Mary Sue or not.
And of course there's my theory that those who like to jump to "Mary Sue" conclusions and make accusations... clearly must have struggled with such issues in their own writing at one point and now can't wait to point the finger at other people, justified or not.
Yes. That is my OFC rant for the evening, thank you for reading that.

Bad, bad job! Stop vexing Ith!
It must be fun having kittens, even though it can be a lot of work.

Date: 2010-04-17 02:09 am (UTC)From:What kind??? I have (((((((real)))))) phobia when it comes to spiders. Every night when I turn the light off next to my bed I think of the possibility of a spider dropping down to see me during the night.........even though it has been ages since I saw one in the bedroom.
And yes they are small, but we have two poisonous, very, varieties here in the Pacific NW.
