Hope everyone is well!

I had that one writing spurt in November, then silence fell. Since then, we went to Disneyland for Nin's birthday, meeting up with Roberta, Casey, Jen and Dave. Fun was had and matching shirts were worn :D

What else is new? I have a new phone - my last one got zapped while I was recharging it -- it's a Motorola Droid Turbo, the only one available form Verizon on early edge since my contract isn't up till May.

Vala is growing like a weed, and definitely is more Border Collie that Lab as she grows.

Nin got me an Ancestry.com DNA test for my birthday, which was utterly fascinating when I got the results back. I finally did a paid Ancestry membership as well, after years of just the free one. Should have done it years ago! So much easier and so much information as you can look at other family trees and use that they've discovered already. I was zipping along, working on my paternal great grandmother and was flabbergasted to discover a direct line to the Plantagenets, and the Dukes of Burgundy. Till then, I'd been quite satisfied to discover an aunt who was a lady in waiting to Ann Boleyn :D On that line, I've made it back to 1000. I'm stuck on my mum's, both mother and father, not making it back much past 1700.

Saw Battle of the Five Armies, and while I did enjoy it, it seemed weaker than the first two, and several things aggravated me. But I will go see it again.

Our dryer broke, so we're back to putting things outside to dry. But I'd prefer that to the washer breaking [knocks wood]

Been very slowly preparing for Xmas, and I'm sure there's things I should be doing, but mostly just want to sit here. I did manage to make the filling for my Winter Fruit Tarts yesterday, and shelled nearly 3 lbs of pecans for Nin's Spiced Pecans.

Oh, finally saw the Racoon movie aka Guardians of the Galaxy. Rented it form Amazon. It was entertaining, though I fell asleep part way through. I woke in time for the end though. At least I know what the dancing tree thing is all about now. At some point I'll have to rerent it and try and stay awake through the whole thing.

Everyone have a great holiday season!

Saw two trailers of interest on Saturday: First off was Hansel and Gretel. Now I'll go see it for Renner, but it looked like it might be entertaining. Had a whole Van Helsing vibe to it. And the second was Oz: The Great and Powerful. OMG! This looks terrific! I was a huge fan of the Oz books and this just looks and feels like the books to me. Really looking forward to this one. And, guys, FLYING MONKEYS!

I see they're about to release a boxed set of all the Indiana Jones movies on BluRay for nearly $70. I wonder if they'll ever release the original movies on BluRay individually? I only want Raiders and Last Crusade. I can't do the bugs in Temple of Doom, and I really disliked the fourth skull one. They probably will eventually, but not till they've milked all they can from the box set.

In other news, I really want the new larger Kindle Fire! Not sure if the 4G one is worth it though. Haven't crunched numbers to see if what they charge for access is reasonable or not. We do have wireless at work now, but it's still filtered through the same net nanny software, so I wouldn't be able to use the tablet there really.

And in other other news, I think I have another stupid cold.

We were going to go see Snow White & the Huntsman at the faux IMAX up at Zion tonight, bit forgot it's my mum's birthday, and she works till 8pm - which is when the movie starts. The theater does the usual nature films in the day, and at night, they have one second run showing of a movie on alternate nights for a week. SWH got missed in the general Avengers rush, and I thought we'd get that at least on the big screen, since it looked stunning in the adverts I saw. We did manage to go see Brave, but if we see anything before the Hobbit, I'd be surprised. Oh, wait that Jeremy Renner Bourne movie is coming out. Okay, definitely going to try and see that! I probably need to look at one of those coming soon lists and see if there was anything we'd been looking forward to. My memory sucks sometimes.

Later: Oh, the new James Bond is this winter!

We're finally going to see Harry Potter tonight. Better late then never, right? Though I think we're far too late to see the X Men movie - that'll have to wait for DVD. After the unenthusiastic posts I've read about Cowboys and Aliens, I think we'll just wait to rent it when it comes out. Too bad, because I was really looking forward to that one.

We don't rent a movie in months, then we do two in one night! Got my long HDMI cable in so I can view the Amazon steaming on my TV, and watched the BBC 'Yellowstone' documentary. It was absolutely gorgeous! Then we decided to get a PPV movie from Dish and settled on 'Due Date' with Robert Downey Jr. - errr.... let's just say it wasn't my sort of movie. Then we decided to try out the Vudu service that came with the BluRay player since we got one free rental with it, and watched 'Taken', the Liam Neeson film. That one we enjoyed a great deal more. Being a person of an earlier generation, I find myself absolutely tickled by the fact I can just pick a movie on my TV screen and instantly watch it. I may not have got that flying car we were promised, but it's pretty darn nifty nonetheless! I remember when VCRs first appeared on the scene, and you had to rent the actual VCR the movie since VCRs were really expensive when they fist came out. What a difference a few decades make!
