Ah, havocthecat, you know me so well. I love it! We watched one ep before bed last night, and we're hooked. It even reminds me of Forever Knight a little, which is a nice bonus.
Oooh, might you like to expand on how Lost Girl reminds you of FK? I have not run into that comparison before, and I had backed away from the idea of watching it because it sounded sort of opposite of FK, actually...
In addition to the elements ithildyn lists, there's a quest, as Bo's long-term motivation is finding the truth about her real parents and how she ended up raised where she was. (I'm rapidly getting the impression she might not like the answers.)
Also, I've now seen four eps, and she's been taken to task at least twice for operating with a human moral compass, i.e. valuing a human's safety over a Fae's whim.
The comparison would actually not have occurred to me had ithildyn not mentioned it, but there are threads. I've mostly been making the more obvious BT comparison, since Peter Mohan is the showrunner and wrote the (cute, excitable, resourceful goth girl) sidekick using a very familiar marketing tactic for Bo's nascent PI business.
(I'm actually oddly very much appreciating the fact that they're appropriately terrible at it -- having no formal and limited applicaable training or experience -- and have survived their first couple cases by the skin of their teeth, a LOT of help from their friends, and a goodly dose of sheer luck.)

Date: 2010-10-31 10:36 pm (UTC)From:The Fae live right under the nose of humans, like vampires in FK.
The Fae have a bar/club, a sidhe version of the Raven.
The show's about a succubus who needs to feed on energy/lifeforce, and often as not kills her victim and wishes for an alternative.
There's a female human doctor who works for the Fae who is trying to help find her those alternatives.
Human female doctor [g]
Two police detectives who are fae.
The succubus, while not a cop, has started solving supernatural crimes.
And that's with only three episodes seen.
