Flood Warning

It's been raining for a week and due to rain for another. It's very unusual to get so much rain in the winter - normally we get monsoon rains in August - and we've gotten so much, we're now under a flood warning. Rivers are supposed to go over their banks some point tonight. We're on high ground, so we'll be fine, but lots of other people won't.

My hubby told me that CA is flooding from rain, and we were surprised to think of that. But now your area is flooding, as well. What on Earth is happening to our earth, LOL? Though not so funny, after all. Be safe!

The weather we're having here is exactly what I'm used to living in coastal CA - we often flooded in the winter. Fort here, it's crazy!

Weather Channel reported California same and mudslides due to the loss of ground cover during the terrible fires.......I think they said LA got 2" which is a lot.....Sacramento, which is delta area which leads to flooding was shown already inundated. When I lived and worked there we had so much rain in three weeks that we were soon like a castle with a moat around it. It was serious business.
I was very very glad I lived on the sixth floor of a high rise downtown at the time and later when I began to look for a home in the burbs I remembered which areas were seriously flooded.
Up here there is fear if it warms up too soon we might flood out....same for WA state.

Yep, I lived in CA most of my life, and went through the two big floods.

I pulled up the NWS flooding statement and it wasn't nice:

Heavy rainfall continues to fall over river drainages in Washington and Kane Counties. Many areas have experienced flooding due to the rainfall...with additional significant flooding forecast Tuesday through Thursday.

The flooding is anticipated to come in two peaks. The first peak will arrive on the Virgin River system on Tuesday afternoon and then again on Wednesday afternoon. The Santa Clara River`s peaks are forecast to occur on Tuesday evening...and early Thursday morning.

The listing of CFS (cubic feet per second) are even more menacing.

According to the NWS:

The north fork of the Virgin normally flows at 40 CFS and is expected to peak at 7000 CFS and then at 5000 CFS.

The Virgin near Hurricane normally flows at 100 CFS and is expected to peak at 18000 CFS and 12000 CFS.

This is ugly. Please stay safe, especially Ninjababe traveling to her place of work ... you too, Ith, since I don't know whether you have to cross this river.

No worries, we don't live or work near any of the flood areas.
