ithildin: (John Adams - Friendship)
I seem to be in a creative slump, which seems to extend to even writing LJ posts. Not that it's anything new, but work is stressing me out, seems more so lately, and that seems to dampen any desire to write/interact.

We finally watched Half Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows I over the last few weeks. I thought HBP was a wretched movie, which sucked since it was one of my favourites of the novels. DH was a much better movie and am looking forward to II. We also watched The Tourist last night. We just took our first foray into renting from Red Box, since I only just discovered you can reserve movies, and wanted to test out the process. I had managed to remain unspoiled for Tourist, and I figured out 'the twist' if you want to call it that. We enjoyed the movie, and it was certainly very pretty to watch, with a great cast. Then we watched Night At The Museum, which we'd never seen, and it was really fun and cute.

Picked the first apricots, and jam will be made today. I'm surprised there's so many ripe already considering the cooler weather/late spring this year. Speaking of, supposedly, we're going to break cold records today. They were forecasting snow at 8000 feet. I have to say, I'm, loving the unusual cold weather. I'll take 80s over 100s any day!

Really need to get some housework done as we were away last weekend.

Mom was crazy about apricots, but would only eat them when they were fresh. I really love apricot preserves, but I want the preserves, not some of what they pass off as it.

You just described me. :) I have neither the energy nor desire for anything creative, and this feeling of listlessness has spread to my work. I barely managed to correct the latest batch of tests my students did, and we're having final exams tomorrow. :headdesk: I have no idea how I am going to correct those, and take my own exam which is scheduled for July 1.

For years I avoided Harry Potter because my friends kept trying to push it on me, which is a sure fire way to get me to dislike something. I read the books recently, and watched the movie and I'm strangely ambivalent about it. I love the world, but it seems to me that she tells us how we should feel about certain things but the actions of the characters lead us to different conclusions. It's confusing.

I liked the movies well enough, and thought the actors good, though there was a slight disconnect because I expected younger teachers. Alan Rickman can do no wrong, though. :)

I kind of expected more passion from HBP. Snape's reaction to the duel between Harry and Draco (I liked Tom Felton) was cold, and the same with his own confrontation with Harry. It didn't feel like the HBP storyline was covered all that well. If I hadn't read it, I wouldn't have known what was going on. Deathly Hallows II will premiere here on the 30th, because of the Sarajevo Film Festival, and I'm looking forward to the conclusion. It will be the first movie I will see in 3D.

My sister tells me the trees in our garden were afflicted with some sort of disease, so we have no apricots this year. :( This makes me sad.

HBP sucked. Like you the sixth book was my favorite, so I was very disappointed. I was glad they bounced back for the seventh movie. Here's hoping the last one is as good.

Enjoy the cooler weather!

Oh, man, I wish it was 80 degrees here. I'm melting.

Summer weather often makes me lazy and not want to be creative. I just play video games and watch movies/tv most of my free time.

Haven't seen The Tourist yet but it sounds fun. I wasn't too fond of HBP either, and I totally agree with [livejournal.com profile] dj_aida when she says this:

it seems to me that she tells us how we should feel about certain things but the actions of the characters lead us to different conclusions. It's confusing.

I've thought that about a lot of things in Harry Potter too.

And my friends are back

This weekend was strawberry jam time for us.

Which meant 40# of sugar and 20 boxes of Sure Jell. You can do the math on how many quarts of jam were put up.

I only work in large batches: 5 boxes of Sure Jell boiled in 3 3/4 cups of water added to 10# of sugar that have been blended with 10 cups of mashed berries, stir until stiff yields 9 quarts of jam.

A fun time was had by all.

Saw this year's first lit-up fireflies over the weekend. They have been around for a week or so, but they only started glowing this weekend.
