The first Batman is also my favorite. I saw both Iron Man movies recently and enjoyed them a lot (my sister hated them, on the other hand!) All X-Men movies had something I liked and some things I didn't, and I guess I'd say that the first and the last are my favorites.
I don't know any of those characters, so maybe I'm not emotionally vested in their participation. I think there are enough characters in the Avengers - let's see, we have Thor, Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Nick Fury, agent Coulson (did I miss someone?) - and it would be to much to have more and then have them lost in the crowd. From what I read, these were the original members of the Avengers, so I presume that this is their origin movie, like the individual movies were for each character.
I would rather have one good female character now, and possibly more in the upcoming movies, than have them there just to be there as token character.
