ithildin: (Taste - Tea)
Cats broke my teapot. My lovely Chatsford 10 cup Sponged Sheep. It's not made anymore, and I can't replace it. It's made by the London Teapot Company, and I think they may be out of business since their website is defunct (Was given a link that actually worked!) (Crap, they only make solid colours now). The rare 10 cup ones I find are all plain colours, no patterns. I know it's stupid, but I loved that teapot. And I'm ticked off because I was always pushing it back away from the edge of the counter, but my family insisted keeping putting things behind it so it kept getting shoved forward!! If people had left it alone, it wouldn't have been broken!!!!!!!!!!!! Not having much luck finding another brand that large either. Gee, surprise, most Americans aren't looking for big teapots.

Really upset right now.

My dead teapot

OMG, huge, HUGE :::HUGS::: I completely know your pain and it's awful!

It may take some time and money, but it's really possible that you might find one on eBay - If not today, be persistent and keep searching. I have found some really impossible things there.

I did find a website for LTPC: http://www.tltpc.demonweb.co.uk/chatsford.htm - is that the one you found?

It! But all variations of it I tried came up a blank page and service not found. This one worked. Thank you!

:( eBay? You'd be amazed at what you can find there. I didn't find your particular teapot, but if you check back once a week or so it might show up sometime.

Bummer.

Have you looked for a tea pot designated for iced tea? Those always big.

This is why I love my stainless steel tea pot. When it gets dropped, it just goes clang. My mother brought it back from England in 1976. She loved the one my Aunt used and just had to have one because it makes over a quart of tea at a time. (No idea how many cups that translates to.)

Except I need a teapot now, and it's depressing me I have to settle for the solid coloured one. Not that that makes any sense, but I'm down in the dumps currently, I guess.

Yeah, that was one of the first places I looked, then I branched out to UK based stores. Nada.

I'm a traditionalist, I'm afraid. Teapot needs to be pottery/stoneware. Like a Brown Betty - except not brown LOL

I have one of those, too. (Only in brown) ;-D It was my grandmother's.

Depends on what you consider tradition, I guess. I use what my English cousins (and mother) do. That's where we learned about electric tea kettles. Been using those since the 70s, too. I suppose you could say it's a tradition in my house. :-P

(Ironically, I don't have a tea icon.)

EDIT: Is this the type you mean? __>linky linky (http://www.englishteastore.com/cobalt-porcelain-teapot.html?lsku=DTP_NT-653C&gclid=COO17J_y-68CFSKhtgodJS9uSg)

We've always had an electric kettle. It's been nice to be able to buy them here these days, though the one relatives brought from England when we lived in Canada was the best one. Only time I can recall my grandmother and/or great aunt using metal was when the silver tea service came out for company. I just prefer the taste in a stoneware pot, since that's what I'm used to. And since I drink two pots of hot tea a day, I'm married to that flavour, I suppose. To old to change my ways now.

Yes, something along those lines, except not a solid colour. I've emailed the Chatsford people to see if they might have a stash of patterned ones they're not showing on their website. [fingers crossed]

Oh dear.........these things do happen and I can well imagine
how you must feel........
I remember how many times we had irreplaceable items stolen when
we moved...and same thing later when I was on active duty
I still remember some of them, and there was no way they could be
replaced.......stolen or broken does not matter, it is gone
(((((HUGS))))))

I understand the attachement to the teapot. My SIL is British and has fully infused into me the importance of tea and the value of a personal teapot.

I did some extensive google searching and came up dry. I'll keep my eyes open for you. The best I found was a Union Jack teapot. :(

Eeek! I hate when things like that happens. And you know my babies (especially Methos) is a bugger-bear and does things like this.

So sorry and I hope you find what you're looking for. How big was your teapot?

Hope you'll a good one, though they do seem to forget how to make right ones:(.(The one I'm using one could be older than me...)

Did you know you can set up a standing search on eBay? It will run automatically at the interval you choose, then send you an email.

Hope you'll be lucky and find them again.

So sorry.

Last time my fav teapot broke, I ended up getting 4 before I fell in love with one again.

Larger teapots are harder to find too. Good luck in finding a nice replacement fast.

How big are the shards? Is it repairable? I know you wouldn't be able to use it anymore, but at least it wouldn't be gone entirely. There's a poly resin called Aruldite (at least that's the brand name here) that's excellent for gluing porcelain and china and I've used it pretty successfully for some invisible mends. I broke a favourite mug years ago and it's still together and all you can see is one hairline crack where the edges weren't very clean. Might be worth a go?

Hmm, not quite the same and it doesn't say how big it is, but how about this: Image?

I see what you mean about 10-cup, the biggest I've seen so far has been 6-cup. Tsk.

But perhaps we'll stumble upon something in Wales? *fingers crossed*

It's extremely annoying how often over the last 24+ hours I've discovered a multitude of teapots with no description as to what size they are.

I went to the site the above is from and saw several nice ones, but all were no larger than 6 cups :(
