ithildin: (Grey's - Seriously)
This week's episode, I kid you not!

Okay, first off, why do all the kleenex heavy episodes of shows air all at once? First Doctor Who, then I start on Atlantis. By the end of the night, I couldn't breath and I had a terrible headache. But on with the show.

I'd heard rumours that Carson died, but I didn't have any details. So last night, we're watching, and as soon as I heard the words 'explosive tumours' I knew what was going to happen. (Side note: I can just see a bunch of writers around the table and some guy saying, "I know! Explosive tumours!! That would be so cooool!) So how was it like Grey's? Well, there was an episode in second season where a patient had an unexploded bazooka shell in him. Carson was a combination of Meredith and Burke and 'Bomb Guy' (Kyle Chandler in a guest role). The surgeons refuse to leave the patient, operate to remove the shell, they carefully place it in Bomb Guys hands, he walks down the hall toward the disposal container and BOOM!!! Since I'd seen it in Grey's, I wasn't totally shocked when Carson got blown up.

I liked Carson! And who's going to take care of his turtles? :(

Some of the not sad things I liked: While this show is totally free of any sort of ship for me, I had to say, I found the Teyla and John, and Rodney and Plant Chick interactions adorable. While I wouldn't want this to become a frequent feature of the show, I wouldn't be adverse to a little exploration on that front. Even Elizabeth and her lunch date were cute.

I enjoyed Rodney and Plant Chick's conversation a lot too. Especially Rodney's honest confusion as to why she liked him. "But when you get to know me like _they_ know me..." Heh.

I knew that Carson wasn't going to be around next season, but I had no idea they were going to kill him off. Though I began to suspect when he picked up the container with the explosive tumor (I was certain they wouldn't kill Carson AND his assistant AND the patient). (My favorite line: "Explosive tumors? Are you kidding me?")

Wow, they stole this idea from Grey's Anatomy??? As Ronon would say, you've got to be kidding me!

I loved all the little off-duty scenes, too--I think my fave was John and Ronon hanging out together. I wish there didn't have to be the crisis, especially not one with such a tragic outcome. I liked Carson, too! I also liked the structure of the episode, with the explosion coming in the first few minutes, and then all the flashbacking.

When I saw your post earlier about Dr. Who, I thought, uh oh, she's watching "Sunday" next? Not happy!

When I saw it I had no idea that Carson was going to die, as I try hard to avoid spoilers, so I was really shocked. It's a really good episode, I think, in that the tone through much of it is so light and breezy that you really don't see it coming, even after people start exploding.

I went in totally unspoiled for that ep (wow, an episode we in the UK received ahead of you?!), and was gutted and annoyed at the silliness of explosive tumors. Because really? What special crack were they on that week? *pets poor Carson*
What does Stargate have against their doctors anyway? /rant, grumbles, wanders off, spologises for being Ms MacRantypants in your LJ...
