ithildin: (Helm - Who?)
I haven't been a very good poster or commenter lately. My only excuse is that my current fic is eating my brain and I'm spending a lot of my free time writing. It's been interesting, as I've never written Kronos or Silas before, so it's all new territory. And then taking characters I have written and turning them on their mirrored little ears.

And yeah, when I'm not writing, I'm posting about writing [g]

I'll try and do a better job keeping up with my f'list this week though.

Believe me, I've been there. Fic eating brain is a good thing. I haven't actually written Silas myself, so this ought to be interesting.

I'm even emailing myself notes, something I haven't done in a long time! The next bit will be the anxious inducing one for me.

writing is a wonderful excuse. Hoping it all comes together for you.

So far, so good. I've actually completed & posted five parts with part six under construction [g] I'm trying to write at least a little bit every day, and that seems to help keep up the momentum.

One of my habits on a long story (because I still love the feeling of pencil on good paper) is to dedicate a notebook to a story. Then I make notes to myself and draft various scenes. That helped me get Kindness of Ravens going when I wasn't writing at all.

And then there are my long involved footnotes when I'm working on a piece. I try not to email the draft to people because the endnotes/footnotes can take up half a page.

But it's good that the story wants to be written!

The last time I used paper notes was Oaths, I think. I had to very carefully mix the flashbacks with the related front story, plus all the historical research I had. And it was before I had internet at work, so I couldn't email myself stuff [g]

One of the nice things about writing SF is the lack of required historical research [g]

I haven't been either, but at least you have an excuse! I am glad the writing is going well. Do some for me because I have not been doing any for myself!

Don't think too much on us -- just run with the inclination to write!

Yeah, before the inclination runs away entirely and I never catch it again [g]

Not a problem..........

good luck with your writing!

True, although I've found that with a lot of the SF I've written, I ended up doing research in biology, sociology, physics... luckily those were all subjects I've studied. I never did well on grades, except in the soft sciences, but I'm a fairly good regurgitator and I can usually use what I find to make a story work.

That's way beyond the abilities of my tiny brain cells [g]

I certainly wouldn't want to pretend I'm brilliant. I think I'm fairly intelligent, but things like tig, higher algebra, and calculus just whiz past me and don't stop on the way. I'm not really wired for the hard sciences, but I need to feel as if there's some sort of logical grounding for what I'm doing.

Physics--now, a lot of physics is voodoo anyway, so you can get away with quite a bit of fudging there.

Oh, I am intrigued to see your take on Kronos and Silas. Because your style is so ... it's almost ethereal. It sort of creates a clash in my brain, trying to put you and him together.

If that is coming across as in any way critical - it's NOT. I am convinced that you can create brilliant fic in any genre. Take one vial of ithidrial, add 20 mg of Kronos, and step way, way back.

You win for most intriguing comment ever :)

Ethereal? Seriously? Huh.... will have to go ponder that all self-consciously and stuff [g]

And you're so sweet to be so kind and encouraging. I'm actually more than a little overwhelmed right now. So, just thank you. You're such a brilliant writer so I take your words as a true compliment. I really hope I can get this right now!

I'll go hide behind the potted palm now...
