ithildin: (Holiday - Xmas Glow)
Sausage Rolls - forgotten favourites, is what they are. They were a staple of the holidays when I was little (my great aunt always had them) and, of course, when we lived in Canada. When we lived in Monterey, there was an elderly couple from the UK in our Scottish Dance group that always had homemade ones at their Xmas party. I haven't had any now in years. I suddenly remembered them last week. So guess what we're having this holiday? I've never made them myself, but they're darn easy from the looks of the recipes I found.

Then there's Devonshire Cream. MMMMM!!! Sometimes you can get little jars of it from England, but not often and it's expensive. I was making something or other earlier in the year with marscapone cheese, and was surprised how much it tasted like it. So we had some in the fridge, and mum made cream scones today, so I gave it a shot. Wasn't too bad at all. Not quite the same, but close enough in a pinch.

As soon as Nin is home from work, we're going to Cracker Barrel with mum and Glenn to get a ham for Xmas dinner and to actually eat dinner. And mum wants to look at the holiday stuff they have in the store. Trying to decide between chicken and dumplings and chicken fried steak.
