ithildin: (Jane - Methos)
The lovely mmapmaker challenged me into believing I could actually write just 100 words, so this is for her.

~~~~~~~~~~~
Glass under my feet, his presence fading. He told me he’s leaving because of what I’ve done, but I know that’s not true; it’s because of what I have not done. I should have judged him, turned him away, rejected him utterly. That was what he wanted, what he needed to justify leaving. Because leaving was what he did best. I should have remembered that. Maybe then it wouldn’t have felt as if my soul were dying, maybe then I wouldn’t have hated him. But it was far too late now; loving him was a regret I would never outlive.
~~~~~~~~~~~

Having never written a drabble, I don't know what the posting etiquette is, so suffice to say it's Highlander and Methos -- like that's a surprise :)

Later: you can find the 'sequel' here.

I tried my hand at drabbles...kind of a different way of thinking at first, but it got to be kind of fun. I did three of them, which are in my sidebar. My favorie one is based on something someone once said about Crowe's acting technique - "goes to the cellular level." So I had fun with that.

The other two were because I was in a swoony mood...LOL

As I said to mmapmaker earlier this evening, I can't even keep a post card under 100 words, so this is a true accomplishment!

Oh! 'tis lovely! Really really lovely!

If you want to put it in the [livejournal.com profile] non_txt lj (yes! please do!), then become a member of [livejournal.com profile] non_txt, and start a new thread, since this would be the first HL drabble (I'm pretty sure it's the first HL drabble still.) Do you want me to email you the block quote and bit, about the instructions for playing along that you need to include? Then the drabble goes under a cut.

You know, no one's ever written fic *for me* before. Thank you.

And such a lovely piece, too. It's heartbreaking, in the best kind of way. Really, thank you. -g-

Thank you :) But isn't non txt a slash virtual con? I'm not sure this would be thematically correct :) I don't want to offend anyone.

Aww, you're welcome :) It fits into the fic I'm currently writing, which is the prelude to heartbreaking, I suppose you could say. I am the the queen of angst. Heh.

That was lovely.

Yes, keeping stories to a 100 words is hard at first, but I have fun doing them. Wrote a couple for Babylon 5 and can be found here...http://sharpiesgal.livejournal.com/20483.html

100 word drabbles are difficult but I do like your writing:)

Here is the only rule for the drabble trees: Doesn't matter what pairing, what rating. Go AU, go crazy, just remember to start the next drabble with the last word of the drabble you're continuing.

Yours would be the first HL drabble, so you've got nothing to remember except to post it in a new thread (I mention this because I messed up with the E! drabble -g-).

At any rate, all discussions are valid. As an example, there are two vid rec discussions going on -- one rec'cing slash vids (as if one were building a panel for con_txt), and one rec'cing gen and het vids, to see what else people like and want to see.

There's a discussion about what it was like to be a fandom newbie, which so far has 120 comments in the thread. They can't all be about slash. -g-

Think you'd like to share?

Think you'd like to share?

Errr.... I think I've had enough to drink to do it... It just makes me kinda nervous, I guess :)

Okay, so do I label it? I have, under the cut, Methos, het/gen ? Is that right? Though I suppose it can be ambiguous, yes?

Told you I was nervous :)

okay, hang on a minute. sorta a mix-up in the drabble trees over in non-txt. let me find out what's what before you post, then we'll know where to post for sure. -g-

don't be nervous, really! it's good! just hang on a sec while I post a question. -g-

Sorry, I posted it already :( I hope I didn't commit any major faux pas.

I'm all twitchy...

Thanks :) Yep, it leaves much to the reader. Though it is a specific event in the series I write, so for me, I had a very detailed vision in mind whilst I was writing.

Thanks again!

So many ways you could read this, and actually from so many different points of view, which makes a good drabble.

Since I wrote this first one, I've come to rather enjoy writing drabbles :)

Date: 2007-01-11 02:57 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] dejla.livejournal.com
They're nice if all you have is an image, and you want to immortalize the image. That works.

And it's actually the way I tend to start a story, with an image, one that I either need to get to, or one that I need to work from and see what happens.

But that's the really tricky part, of course, finding the rest of the story in the drabble.

So yeah, if you can write one like this, which is just one perfect moment suspended like a pearl at the midpoint of a chain. It could roll to the beginning or to the end, and as it stands, you don't even know what the chain's made of. But if you go on with it, then it changes from that one single pearl and becomes a string.

It's hard for me to keep it short, so I find drabbles a good discipline for writing [g] I think most of my stories come from snippets of conversation/dialog that I 'hear',

Date: 2007-01-11 03:42 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] dejla.livejournal.com
It is good discipline, if you can do it... I can, sometimes. (banging head against desk) since 'ravens' is up to the 43K word mark now and simple gifts is 45K and neither one is done.
