ithildin: (DW - Doctor Blue & White)
I just stumbled across the 'A Doctor Who Fan's Guide to Dealing with Doctor Who Fans' today, though I'm sure everyone else and their mother has seen it before now. The whole thing is funny, but a few things made me laugh out loud.

"Oh my god, I hate JNT"

Gods, yes! I remember those sorts of rants vividly. Except then, we didn't have the internet, so people would save up their rage in the months between cons and then vent spectacularly once at the con.

although 'common knowledge' may state that Colin Baker was the worst doctor, this is not always the case in Doctor Who fandom and Six-Fanciers have been known to take down an unwary critic faster than a Raston Warrior Robot on a cocaine fuelled bender.

[nods] No kidding! And he was too the worst Doctor [ducks]

ANYTHING CAN BE A SPOILER! Casting news? SPOILER! Sun-based rumour? SPOILERZ! A picture of RTD sitting naked in a bathtub filled with his television awards cackling away to himself? ZOMG SP01LARZ!!

Ain't that the truth?

Which reminds me. One day, I need to remember to share my Sgt. Benton story.

Today is that day.

:b Of course, as both a Six-Fancier and someone who prefers to ship Doctor/Jack to Doctor/Rose my favorite is the sixth warning. ;)

i'd seen it before but it was worth a good ear-to-ear grin upon re-reading...

of course, I am too young to have experienced fandom without the internet - not sure if that's fortunate or not, though...

Six is not my favourite, but I feel the need to defend him--although not like a Raston Warrior robot on a cocaine bender (what a great simile!) Colin Baker had some of the worst scripts. I mean really, will anything as heart-renderingly awful as "Timelash" ever exist? I doubt it.

Thanks for the link. I'll be waiting around for the Sgt. Benton story. :)

*Nods.* Six isn't my favorite, that would be Tom Baker as seen in my icon. *Points to icon.* But, I like Colin well enough to defend him.

Colin Baker had some of the worst scripts.

Exactly! My favorite 6th Doctor stories are ones I read not ones I watched. I've heard he's done some fun radio and theater that I haven't gotten to hear/see, being on the wrong side of the pond, too.

all right, I have to ask. Who or what is JNT?

JNT was the late John Nathan Turner. He had RTD's job back in the day.

However, Colin Baker is by all accounts a lovely man. I just wasn't keen on his Doctor :)

Fandom was just as whacked, but the delivery method was different [g]

I guess every fandom has their crew of crazy fans. Hilarious - thanks for the link.
But In my experience the worst are the Supernatural fans; they're psycho. Those fangirls will cut you. *hee*

*Nods.* Colin is a lovely man. I was... 8 when he first played the Doctor. I loved his curls, the bright colors of his costume, and the cat pin he wore. I'd still love to have the cat pin. Even then I had the sense 1) he wasn't getting the best writing (I was born and raised with my parents love of Tom Baker), and 2) that it wasn't fair to blame the actor playing the Doctor for that. I admit though for all I understand the writing wasn't the best I do still have favorite Six serials -- "Attack of the Cybermen", "The Mark of the Rani", and "The Two Doctors". I'm pretty sure "Attack of the Cybermen" is responsible both for my failure to find the Borg scary, and for my desire to have Jack shoot Ianto for hiding a Cyberman in the basement.
