ithildin: (Methos - Look)
Trying to figure out why my office smells like stale cigarette smoke. Wonder if someone was smoking in here over the weekend, or if it's just coming off the clothes of my smoking coworkers? I think it's time to break out the Lysol.

Another quiet day on tap.

Decided to start reading the first Womens Murder Club book that Nin had bought a few months back. I really liked the TV series, but am not sure how I feel about the novels quite yet.

The sun was actually visible this morning. No fog! What a nice change. There's been barely any sunshine the last week.

Strangely enough, I find the smell of smoke comforting. Odd, I know.

We've had nothing but Sun. Which I suppose is good..though not if your outside all day.

I tried the first couple of novels--but I liked the tv show better.

I am the reverse. I enjoyed the novels but never got into the show.

There was someone smoking near me at lunch today, and it kind of threw me for a loop. I'm not used to it anymore since my town passed a non-smoking ordinance a few years back. Also, last night I watched "Brand X" (X-Files episode about the dangers of secondhand smoke), so all through my lunch I was flashing on poor Mulder having larvae vacuumed out of his lungs. (Ewwww.)

I just get tired of the constant fog :)

Did you see the show first, or were the books first?

Ditto on the Ewwwww! :)

I should have said. I figured I didn't like the show because I read the books first

I saw the show first, which might have affected my feelings about the books. I'm not fond of first person to begin with, and the jumps in POV in the book kept shaking me out of the reading.

As far as smoke--cigarette smoke makes me gag, and especially at the moment, it irritates my sinuses to no end.

Oddly enough, I find the smell of pipe smoke agreeable, and cigars aren't too bad. Just--cigarette smoke smells stale. And it lingers.

Funny, the POV shifts were what I was complaining about to Nin yesterday [g]

That seems to be the way of it.

I like pipe smoke as well.

It's what I think of as the "American Psycho" or "Hannibal Lecter" school of writing thrillers -- we can't just show you what the villian does, we have to take you inside his or her head and let you see why they're doing what they're doing... Which, as I said, yanks me out of the story.

I don't really care why the villian does what he does. I want to know that when the book is through, the villian is dead, dead, dead.
