BTW, I do have an open ID account over there -- ithildyn.livejournal.com -- and I've added people to my reading list from here that I recognize. So if you have a Dreamwidth account, let me know! When they open things up at the end of the month, I'll see about getting a real account.

Now the question is, when that day comes, do I use the LJ version of my user name, Ihildyn, or do I see if I can snag Ithildin, which is my original user name?

Which spelling do you prefer? I don't think one letter will make any difference to people knowing who you are, IMHO you should pick the username you want.

Course, I picked little_ms_dvus for IJ and subcircus for inkspot so clearly I have no clue about my online identity at all *grin*

I signed in with open ID, but that's just your LJ account. It was difficult to understand but it said you could only get an account if someone invites you unless you purchase an account. If LJ did that people would want to tar and feather them. They'd be yelling *discrimination*.

*shrugs* I'm waiting to see what it looks like when they finally get it open and going. If I like it I would be willing to buy an account. I bought one for LJ and IJ both after all.

It's only because they're still in closed beta. It isn't open for official business yet. Apparently when LJ first started, they used a similar invitation system. That way they can control the server load while they're testing.

I did the open account too -- adabsolutely.insanejournal.com, but nothing else yet. I've been trying to find people without success. Will have to do a bit more fiddling around to figure it out.

I wouldn't be too sure about that. I had just checked my e-mail and gotten an invite, granted I can't decide whether to go with my first name, Amy, or my username for all my other blogs/journal/etcs...but anyway, back to the point, I was sure that I wouldn't be getting one...even gave up on getting one and there it was. So, I wouldn't give up quite yet.

I've heard a rumour that people who have a registered Open ID account will get an invite code when it opens at the end of the month. No idea if it's true, but we;'ll see :)

I firmly believe the internet is all about meeting new people, so unless something is totally locked down, I love showing up on doorsteps, or vice versa :)
