So we just finished up with the second season for HEX here on BBCA, and after the last one aired, they flashed up on the screen that S3 was coming in SUMMER 2007!! Wha!! Has S3 finished up in the UK? Or is it still airing? Need to see it before another year goes by [pout]



And speaking of HEX, what in the heck kind of school is it where the students run around unsupervised like that? At first, I was wondering if they were older than I'd initially thought. When I started watching, I thought they were in the 16-17 year old range, equivalent to our high school age here. But then with all the drinking and partying and just the general unsupervised climate, I though maybe it was some sort of junior college and the kids were actually over 18. Then Ella showed up and there was that whole bit with the solicitor transferring her guardianship to the school, so it confirmed they weren't adults.

So my question, and yes there's a question: is that a typical sort of boarding school? It's certainly incredibly different than the ones here. I'm just generally curious and also because of future fic :) In 'Shattered' I had Triona teaching at a girls' boarding school in the north of England, and the sequel will actually have scenes set there. So you understand my desire to know a little more!

I do not thnk it is typical, try looking at malory Towers and St Clares on Wikipedia for other examples :)

hey hey, Enid Blyton! I haven't read those for years, or the Chalet School books (Elinor Brent-Dyer), but they're all set several decades ago. Boarding schools have probably moved on since then, at least in some ways, but given the fees that most charge I wouldn't have thought that parents would be happy with their kids running wild (unless that was a pivotal feature of the school's ethos..).

A few of my uni friends had been boarders at school, most commenting that the level of monitoring in student halls gave them a lot more freedom than they'd had previously - which makes sense, because most 1st year uni students are over 18. My mum was a boarder in 1968-9, but that was a French convent school; girls were only allowed into town in groups of 4, escorted by a priest *lol* Most good independent schools in Britain (including boarding schools) belong to the "Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference" - with any luck there should be more info via their website (http://www.hmc.org.uk/).

Unfortunately I've never watched Hex, so I have little idea about the school it's set in (Rob & I were still at my parents' place when it was first broadcast and my lapsed Catholic - now JW - mother is very anti-magic.. Stargate in the house she will tolerate, magic she will not, and I was too lazy to catch up on re-runs). There were only two seasons here though, and as far as I know Sky One have cancelled the series. Maybe BBCA are jiggling the original set-up?

Another Enid Blyton fan? *waves* yeah I guess that being set ages ago would mean times have changed from those too, but I don't think it is as relaxed as at Uni!

It is not a university is it? as at uni (I was a boarder too) we were supervised but only so far as there was a warden and the girls and boys slept in different wings , which means those that wanted could sneak whatever/whoever they wanted into their rooms.

Season 3? Um, I think somebody at the BBCA got their wires crossed, HEX was cancelled (http://www.sfx.co.uk/news/hex_axed), I'm afraid..although, maybe it's success in the States will change Sky's (http://www.skyone.co.uk/programme/pgeProgramme.aspx?pid=5) mind. I wouldn't hold your breath, though, a lot of the cast have already moved on.

Are you sure BBCA finished the entire second series? Because, when we discussed the series in another post on my LJ a couple of weeks back, you said you'd just watched Cassie's death, which happens at the beginning of series two

The boarding school in HEX is not very realistic, I'm afraid. For one thing, British boarding schools usually have a uniform and are a lot stricter about letting their students out and about - but it's not quite as old fashioened as Mallory towers, either! Those Enid Blyton books were written a number of decades ago.

Actually, come to think of it, Harry Potter - without the magic, of course - would be more accurate portrayal of what a boarding school would be like in terms of freedoms, etc...

That was because I had weeks worth of eps on the DVR that I was catching up with. Maybe they split up the two actual seasons into three for reairing. We tried to look up some info on the web, and all we could gather was that S3 involved Cassie's son, now attending the same school. He's sposed to some sort of heart throb. And they showed a brief clip of him in pimping what they're calling S3 next summer. The last ep that they called the end of S2 was Ella's witch trial.

That's exactly what they've done - Cassie's son turns up roughly about a third of the way into series 2!
