As I await the end of Valentine's Day, I have a poll! Since everyone loves polls.... In recent days, I've found others, like me, who have never received flowers, or any other sort of gift of a romantic nature, on Valentine's Day. So, the poll!

[Poll #1681894]

The first Valentines day we were together (in the 80s) my now ex bought me a dozen red roses - and then later told me it was the last time he ever would. He remained true to his word until we split up and never bought me a gift for valentines day ever again.

We did have a silly 'competition' for a few years over who could find the smallest valentines card - he eventually won finding one the size of a postage stamp (including envelope) so we kind of gave up after that. Neither of us were that keen on celebrating a day we thought was even more over commercialised than christmas.

I now get valentines cards off my Dogs Trust sponger dogs...

Nope, never received anything. But then, I don't celebrate it - it's my Dad's birthday, so my family always celebrated that instead. I never really felt the loss.

I get candy and a stuffed animal. :) I like like my plushies! This year it's a doggie and Hershey's Kisses.

We're quite the club!

My husband occasionally gives me a bouquet of my favorite flowers (Lilies.).

This year, he's deployed; imagine my surprise when a florist shows up at my doorstep with a bouquet of lilies and roses.

Now that's romantic!

Believe it or not, he's the romantic one; I'm more practical. :D

For example: He likes romantic comedies and I prefer action flicks.

I met my first serious steady boyfriend at a Valentine's day dance. We started dating a month later and he gave me a rose and a small plushie on the next Valentine's day. We broke up some months later when he left for university in another state. I still have the plushie these many years later. And I am still kind of in a shock, I ran into him today at the grocery store. I had heard that he had moved back but I hadn't seen him in about five years or so.

take care
hugs
Angela

Jeff dropped by a small box of candy and the promise of dinner and a movie when i get home - it seems he's trying to make up for being an asshat - I'm all for letting him buy me stuff - doesn't mean I'm forgiving him >:)

*laugh* well, they weren't actually diamonds, but they were semi-precious stones I could use to make jewelry. It was the closest descriptor I could find!

Well, two years ago I was visiting my brother, and he bought flowers for all the women in the house - his wife, 6-year-old daughter and myself:).

This is the first V-Day I've had a "real" boyfriend and we went on a skiing trip. I hated the actual skiing, but I liked trying to ski.

I would be utterly appalled to receive such a thing, and anyone who I've dated, fucked, or interacted with for more than an hour pretty much knows that.

So ... they all know better.

Well, I got flowers, but they weren't romantic. Just... happy-making. :)

Never had a romantic partner to send me one. Not that I'm bothered. I have good friends and family instead, I don't feel like I'm missing anything.

Most days.

Up until a few years ago, this wasn't a holiday that was really celebrated in my country. Now that it is, I'm not seeing anyone. :) I would be indifferent even if I was and not gotten anything. It's just not something I consider a part of my culture.

Not to say that there aren't any people of different ethnic backgrounds who have chosen to mark the day in some way, though, at utter delight of florists and various manufacturers.

Nothing special this year. Busy paying off the kids student loans, but we did get a surprise at the end of January ... a small black dachshund. Much more energy than any flowers or diamonds ... likes to cuddle and fall asleep in your lap too.

(NB: The picture is now 2 years old and I have even less hair.)

This is almost vomit inducingly sweet, but I once had a boyfriend who wrote me love poetry. Kinda freaked me out a bit, really, he was way too romantic a soul to be going out with prickly old me!
