I posted the first bit of the Halloween fic I'm doing last night over at
all_night_owl. It was kind of nice getting that sort of feedback early on in a story, and I realized I kind of miss it. When I first started writing fanfic, I'd write while I was on IRC, and paste parts into the channel for people to read and comment. Now days, I pretty much write my fic in solitary mode until a beta reader first sees it. Unless I make
ninjababe read it part way through, but she whines when I do that, so I don't do it with every story [g].
So my question for you writers: what's your writing MO? Do you write in a solitary environment? Do you share the story as you go with friends? A writing group? Something else? This is me being curious.

I haven't lost any friends over that, but then again they could be plotting my demise and where to stash the body...lol

I get what you mean. I'm always in a state of fear that I'm imposing myself on people who are too nice to tell me my writing sucks and leave them alone. So I try not and bother people.

That doesn't mean I don't make errors; I do. But I'm a little anal about proofreading. :) I think that's the major flaw in most writing. No one proofreads their own work before sending it off to their beta. It's your work. Take some pride in it.
Okay, I'll hop off my soapbox now. *grin*
Good question, Ith! How about posting it to A&D? Please?

Date: 2006-09-21 06:06 pm (UTC)From:[raises hand] Err... I do. I go over all my fic several times before a beta ever sees it.
But I wasn't so much talking about beta readers, I meant something more along the lines of some people reading what you're writing as you go and giving general input. A story that's still being written isn't in a state for a beta, at least to my mind, but that's why I'm asking after all :)

Nuh-uh. No way. Not gonna happen. I may talk about story ideas, but to let someone see unfinished work?
I think NOT!!!
::panics and hides::
Er, does that answer your question?
