ithildin: (Holiday - Halloween Boo Pumpkin)
I haven't been able to backup to Dreamwidth since August, so I finally opened a support request. Apparently, there's some sort of code difference now between the two, and unless LJ makes a change, I'll no longer be able to use Dreamwidth. So DW will now become like IJ was - something I only use when LJ is down. Real bummer that,

I don't back up. I just cross-post and both posts will be there. You might try that. Damn, I need to add my Halloween icons. And it's almost Halloween. How did I miss that?

No, if I crosspost, I don't have access to all my icons here, and that would defeat the purpose of the money I spent for a permanent account [g]

I totally forgot my Halloween icons! I have three on the list permanently, and just spaced. The warm weather here probably contributed to tat

If you crosspost, you should have access to your icons either way, IF your keywords for you icons are the same. If they are not the same, then on you LJ or any other blog it'll go back to the default and you will have to go in and edit the entry.

They're not even the same icons, never mind the same keywords, and going back and editing the entry is way more work than I want to put in.

I try and have a base of icons that I have on both blogs, that way I can post and it'll transfer either way.

I've not had any problems thus far. I found out the keyword thing on my own.

What would happen if I did this? oh...cool!

I have 200+ icons here, and the 15 allowed on free accounts there. Since I make icons, I always have more than I can use, so I prefer different icons there, so a few more get used.

I'm a collector of icons.

I leave the credit or give it once I use the icon, but collect...

Hmmm... I've been backing up from LJ onto DW without any problem, as of earlier this week. I don't know what's up with this...

Huh. I noticed the problem after the last denial of service attack here. I know LJs are hosted on different servers, so maybe the problem is confined to whatever server my LJ is housed on.

Could be, I've not had any problems importing my journal either. Man, that sucks :(

Code difference?

I think that this is mentioned in the latest DW News update (http://dw-news.dreamwidth.org/30843.html?style=mine), and that LJ is supposed to be working on a fix:
If you're trying to import content from LiveJournal, some users have been experiencing an error message reading something like: "XMLRPC failure: couldn't retrieve anum for entry at /home/lj/cgi-bin/ljprotocol.pl line 4021". (The line number may change.) This is, unfortunately, a bug with the way LiveJournal is sending out data (not just us, but to any request to download or export entries from certain accounts), and it's not something we can fix.

If your account is one of the ones affected by the bug, you may want to report it to LiveJournal's support team -- however, based on the answers they've given other people who reported it to them previously, they do seem to be aware of the problem and are working on a fix (http://lj-releases.livejournal.com/70119.html?thread=5300967#t5300967), so it's probably not absolutely necessary.

Thanks. I'll try backing up every few weeks and see if it works.

Just in case you need it, there's a new post about the latest LJ crosspost/import issues (http://dw-maintenance.dreamwidth.org/38097.html) in DW_News.
