We saw Sherlock Holmes
Enjoyed it very much, and will probably go see it again.

I was rather bummed about Irene, but as I understand it, her character was only in one story, so I suppose it shouldn't surprise me. I'm betting the next movie starts with Mary's funeral, unless they keep her around for one more. Anywho, the movie was entertaining, I though Jered Harris was wonderful (wow, he looks like his dad!), and Sherlock on the Shetland was worth the price of the ticket. Sent me into a fit of giggles. I don't know much about Mycroft, so can't speak to Stephen Frye's version, but was fun having him in the movie. I was rather surprised they did 'the end' at the beginning. When I saw the falls, I whispered to Nin, "I wonder if they're the falls? And by golly, they were! Obviously, they could still bring Moriarty back, but this way, I guess we won't have a string of Holmes v. his archenemy films (how about Moriarty gets frozen at the bottom, gets unthawed in our time and becomes Iron Man's arch-nemesis???)(sorry, couldn't help myself there.)

I was bummed about Irene also. Especially since I know the fast-acting strain of TB mentioned in the movie only affects birds.

I came out thinking that the whole Irene-is-dead thing was faked by Moriarty in order to get Holmes to play his game. I mean, we saw it as an audience, but with the Holmes stories being in first person format (and that being explained in the opening with Watson writing the story), Watson was relating it. That's the only way I could deal with what they claimed happened to Irene in the movie.

I thought it was a pointless fridging, too. They didn't want Irene in the movie? Just ignore her. Or give someone a line of dialogue to explain why she's not around. Killing her off seemed pointlessly vindictive.

The only way I could see it being relevant to the storyline is if she pops up in camoflage in Holmes' sitting room in three years. He'd be, "WHAT WHAT WHAT?!" and she'd be, "You didn't think you were the only one whose death was greatly exaggerated, did you, my dear?"

You know, I saw the movie on Christmas Eve and I enjoyed it, (Mary rocked, just sayin'!) but I could not get past the feeling that something about the movie was missing. It was fun, lots of excitement, the Falls were mindblowing. Watson stole my heart again. Yet there was something missing and I have yet to figure out what it is.

I'm waiting for the DVD to see this again, but it's gonna be hard -- some of the scenes were heart-achingly beautiful! Went with my Mom and sister-exlaw, and Mom said later that she kept wanting to ask me to rewind it a bit.

Per movie-canon, Irene beat Sherlock twice, and that was before she successfully gave him drugged wine -- I'm of the opinion that having heard Moriarty's voice before her fresh tea was served that she didn't actually drink it, she then made a good guess at the the most likely poison, and faked the symptoms including biting the inside of her cheek to get blood to cough up. I'd agree that it'd be unlikely that Moriarty would fall for that, except it was clear from his little send-off speech that he'd been consistently underestimating her. (Then she ran for the hills -- she may love Sherlock, but she's no idiot.)

Stephen Frye nude scene -- whoo-hoo!!!

Mary being awesome, yay! Hope she survives the next movie.

Watson & Sherlock dancing! Watson being all holmsian! Holmes' goodbye to him echoing his note from the book (and boy am I ticked that theaters don't have subtitles!). Holmes about to fall to his near-certain death deliberately choosing Watson's face as the last thing he'll ever see! DED OF SQEEEE! But I had to squee quietly -- I'd really like it if they started making theater and DVD releases simultaneous.

I think there are a couple bits of fridge-logic marring this, but I won't be sure till I can study it. Over-all, loved this.

I agree with this version of canon.

I also had trouble believing that Moriarty could buy off/control everyone at her favorite restaurant. She knew the waiter by name. So I'd bet that someone there informed her and she knew going in that he was going to poison her. (Even if she had the letter, he probably would have killed her.)

I LOVED the film, but yeah Irene's demise was an odd note in an otherwise excellent (and in many respects better IMHO) sequel.

One of the three Sherlock episodes will be Reichenbach (sort of a spoiler, so I apologise if you've been spoiled but since the episode is called Reichenbach Falls it's not a big secret or anything!), it's going to be interesting to compare the two versions.

I was fortunately forewarned about Mr Fry's nekkid scene thanks to his apologies on Twitter so I was able to thoroughly enjoy his Mycroft and I loved that Robert subtly tweaked his Sherlock to fit as his brother. (psst, it's not a huge deal and I hate to be a pedant but I noticed in the comments others were taking their spelling cues from you so FYI it's Jared Harris and Stephen Fry)
