ithildin: (Grey's - Seriously)
I'm listening to a radio station in Dublin, Ireland, and while the DJ is Irish, all the bumper announcements, like the song coming up, and station adverts, are by North Americans. What's with that? They sound like the exact same voices/style I hear on radio stations here (they probably are!).

In other news: Nin and I are going to try and actually leave the house today. Concept. Though, I haven't made much headway removing myself from the computer. Twitter and Tumblr are like big shiny glittery pits of quicksand!

That is reminiscent of OZ
You see television and they all have prime and proper prep school enunciation, as in Brit.
When I quizzed the locals who I was traveling with, they said
'nobody wants to hear the local dialect'
((((rolls eyes)))))

It depends on the channel! A lot of the channels targeted towards younger people seem to suffer from a twang, but usually the old stalwarts, like RTE Radio 1 have mostly Irish accents (we actually have a lot of British accents too, but that makes a lot more sense, as there is a lot of crossover between the two Islands!)

If I may ask, which channel were you listening to? And would you listen to an Irish language channel if you thought the music was interesting? I ask because some of the best indie music is on the Irish language stations, for some strange reason!

ETA: Whoops! I meant this to be a new comment. Sorry about adding to your thread!

It was FM 104 - just found tunein.com last week and have been browsing.

Yes, definitely! I listen to music in Irish and Gaelic all the time. Don't understand the words, but love it anyway :)

Well, while some of the music would be in Irish, a lot of it would be in English. Its the presenters who will be speaking 'as Gaeilge!'

Radio na Life is a good one to check out (http://www.raidionalife.ie/) as well as RTE 2FM, although both seem to play just dance music during Saturday evening! 2FM have some excellent recorded sessions, however!

Also, a list of all the RTE stations!

I got that bit LOL - just meant since I listen to music in other languages, the presenters speaking in them is no big deal.

Oh no worries.

"..would you listen to an Irish language channel if you thought the music was interesting?"

((nods))
Absolutely.... if it had good music
Does it have live streaming?
I just posted our station here which I love, KINK-FM 101.9
Has terrific music....

Good luck with the concept! We have about -4 F now, so I'm not leaving home if I don't have to:).
