Highlander Season Two

The Return of Amanda, Air Date: November 1993

Amanda, the beautiful Immortal cat-burglar returns to town, telling MacLeod she's retired from her life of crime. He doesn't believe her -- especially when two guys start shooting at them. Mac thinks the guys might be Watchers, but in fact they are FBI agents. Amanda is in possession of some plates for counterfeit money, stolen in Germany before the War. She's looking for an engraver to change the dates, figuring since she's sworn to give up stealing money, she'll have to print some up. Palance, one of the FBI Agents, sets MacLeod and Amanda up to take the fall for his partner's murder, and demands that they turn the plates over. Mac and Amanda are forced to "die" on videotape to catch Palance. ~ recap via tv.com

I liked this one. Amanda was much more playful. The beginning always reminds me of Cabaret. I expect to see Joel Grey come out of the side stage.

I suspect since I was always fascinated with this time in history, that the flashbacks were some of my favorites.

Amanda fishing around in Duncan's shirt for the Watcher tattoo site and then Duncan kissing her wrists was one of my favorite moments for the two of them. It was a sweeter healing than the first woman he was with after Tessa. The short conversation when they're lying in bed, when Duncan asks her if he can't just be happy for that touches me every time. It's something I've stolen shamelessly.

I really liked this - from here, Amanda really came into her own. I feel that as a character, she only really began to take shape from this point on.
I also liked the point they made about the plates being no use, anyhow. Nice detail, that.

Yeah, this Amanda was starting to come into her own. Because I didnt' particularly like the Amanda of season 1. She was a bit too selfish and put Duncan at unnecessary risk. But this Amanda was playful and fun and she did care. This is an Amanda I could see Duncan playing around with for 350 years.

First time I've actually been able to join in with this as I haven't had my HL Season 1 & 2 DVDs for very long. This is an episode I really enjoy. I love Amanda anyway but I love the teasing ease between her and Duncan here and the sense of history to their relationship. The bed scene is a particular delight. The flashback is terrific (and yes, it really reminds me of Cabaret, which I think must have been the intention) and I love Secret Agent!Duncan doing his bit to get important people out of Germany. An excellent reintroduction for Amanda who I liked much more than on her first outing.

This was the episode that made me fall head over heels in love with Amanda. I read in an interview with Elizabeth Gracen that there is a documentary floating about somewhere called "The Unraveling of a Series" which details the deterioration of the Highlander series in its last two seasons. I'm wondering if anyone knows how to get hold of that documentary.
Oh, and the interview was also interesting in that she discusses what she was going through while she was doing the series. Seems she had a psycopathic boyfriend who convinced her that she got the part because of the Mafia, and basically ruined her professional relationship with Adrian Paul.

I think the show you're thinking of is The Raven. There are several articles out that discuss The Raven and have in-depth interviews of EG telling how her boyfriend made her life difficult (as well as what was happening with Clinton in the US) and that it directly affected her relationship with the actor playing Nick. (Useless, boring character and boring actor IMO.) (Sorry Nick lovers, I never felt that he had any charisma and was such a letdown after the relationship/interplay between A. and D.M.)

Ahhhh, that makes MUCH more sense! Amanda notwithstanding, that was a disappointing series, and lost me after two or three episodes.
And you're absolutely right; Nick was a waste.
