“This seat taken?”
“I assume it is now.”
“I suppose it is at that.” He slid onto the empty barstool. “May I join you?”
Deliberately picking up her glass and draining what was left of its contents, she replied, “No.” Setting it down, she reached for her purse.
“You could let me buy you another.”
“That’s one option, I suppose.”
“And the other?”
“You could go bother some other poor woman.”
“But I like bothering you.”
“My lucky day.”
He smirked. “It could be.”
“Does this shtick of yours actually work?”
“It has been known to on occasion.”
“Prove it.”
